Week 8 Discussion Board Grantham
Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and is due on Sunday. By Tuesday, you should respond to two additional posts from your peers. Consider all of the writing you have done in the last eight weeks of this course. Think about the concerns and apprehensions you may have had at the beginning of class about writing essays. You can even take a moment and read your post for the first weeks discussion! Are you more comfortable with the writing process? Has your attitude about writing changed during this class? What is the most important take-away from this course? What do you feel you still need to learn or improve? Think about the future of your writing. How do you think what you have learned and accomplished in this class help you throughout the rest of your degree program and/or your professional (even personal) life?

Akira Kurosawas Uses of Nature
Thesis: Nature is the ever present narrative device in a Akira Kurosawa film. What I will demonstrate: -the narrative and cinematic techniques that Kurosawa uses to depict this relationship between character and nature, as well as this subsequent and gradual unveiling of the message; and -what this equation (character + nature = message) reflects regarding Kurosawa’s philosophy/outlook about how people can arrive at greater insights about their condition – look at the role of “conveying emotion” as a method of commenting on the theme/message (either by implicitly stating that theme/message, or by shaping the tone through which that theme/message is conveyed). -The inevitable/inescapable quality of nature that you refer to is a good one, and in writing about this, again look at how Kurosawa uses this quality to comment on the human condition. -What is the usefulness of pitting human qualities of mortality/transience — as well as strength/perseverance — in relation to this aspect of nature?
Dolls House Final Act
Michael Meyer argued that the play’s theme is not women’s rights, but rather “the need of every individual to find out the kind of person he or she really is and to strive to become that person.”[4] In a speech given to the Norwegian Association for Women’s Rights in 1898, Ibsen insisted that he “must disclaim the honor of having consciously worked for the women’s rights movement,” since he wrote “without any conscious thought of making propaganda,” his task having been “the description of humanity.”[5] This is a meaty prompt! We will discuss it together. Now, drawing from the play, elaborate on the quotes above. Use specifics from the play to support your ideas. Be sure to think about all the characters, not only Nora. What limitseither self-imposed or externalprevent the personal growth? What do the characters do to overcome their limitations? You can also disagree with the statements, explaining once again using specifics whey Meyer and Ibsen are off the mark. In other words, you can say this is a play about women’s rightseven if the author says it’s not!
Journal Entries
You have 6 Journal entries to make. You can write about a lot of different topics (more info/examples below). But you want a couple journal prompts: Prompt 1 – Media overload can happy very easy today. Have you experienced any media overload? Prompt 2 – Are we too reactive about little things that we see or hear about on social media? Prompt 3 – Social media is great for connecting. What would you do if a local politician asked you for your opinion through social media? (I mean actually just you, not a blanket ask everyone.) Prompt 4 – How do you see politics and the next elections, coming up in 2018 changing because of social media? Prompt 5 – Have you seen any fake news in your social feeds? Prompt 6 – There has been a polarizing of politics in social media. How do you respond? Do you make your voice heard, try to understand what others think, block/remove those that are extreme? Or some combination? READ THIS: Below is information about the journals. Some relevant topics to write about include a personal experience, film/song/art, something you read about in the news or something that is happening in pop culture. You may also write specifically about a class concept, reading or discussion. If you are referencing a website/article/video/book/etc, you should use APA citations. Word makes this very easy to do. Your journal entry needs to be at least two paragraphs long, be dated, and reflect a rigorous and critical engagement with the material. Example of an idea for a journal entry: You saw a news clip about women and plastic surgery and want to journal about your struggle with body image. Better example of an idea for a journal entry: You saw a news clip about women and plastic surgery and use our in-class discussions on the concept of symbolic interactionism to discuss the social impact of images like these.
Evaluation Essay about Racism
Evaluate/judge the effectiveness of the current national or international approach to the problem of RACISM. In short, do you think the U.S. or the world is doing a good job in trying to solve this problem? Why or why not? Not evaluating the problem itself or arguing for a solution; rather, you are making a judgment about how our country or the world is handling the problem and then defending the evaluation to readers.
Your Final Project
For your Final Project, you will need to write, format, and submit 3 individual papers. These papers will be slightly shorter, (350-450 words each) but will still need to be clearly organized and bring the audience along on a journey. Paper 3: Identify potential directions for the future of this product or service. Think about the demands of the audience now, and how they will change over the next five years. Remember to clearly introduce and conclude each paper. Each should stand alone and be readable by someone without context. Paper directions: These papers must fall between 350 and 450 words, and begin with your name, the word count, and the title of your piece. Please double-space your submission. Especially in the context of this first half of the collection of short stories? Things you could focus on: Characters Setting Identify Fallacies Form (different from other stories up to this point) Be as specific as possible and remember, this is only a reflection and critical exploration in a story of your choosing.
