Educational Equity for Women and Girls

In the Research Project Proposal, you will propose to me your research topic and research question(s). The 1-2-page proposal should contain three clearly-marked sections–What? Why? and How? Please compose one hefty paragraph for each section: What? — What specific issue have you chosen to investigate? How does this issue relate to the broader theme of education and social justice? What is your research question? How is your research question a knowledge-making question? Why?–Why are you interested in this issue? What got you interested in this issue? What’s at stake? Why would other people be interested in this? Who are your primary intended audiences–who would would be interested/invested in this discussion? (Don’t say “everybody.”) How?– How will you go about answering your research questions? What kinds of publications do you think will help you pursue your research question? If you plan to use one of our class readings (Hannah-Jones, Gessen, or Blitzer), mention so here, and explain why this source is important to your research.

Anxiety in the workplace

Discussion Board Post: 5 Newspaper Articles  In preparation for the first week of the topic, substantial, independent research will be conducted. A minimum of 5 articles related to the topic must be researched, posted and summarized. Appropriate APA referencing of each article is required, as well as about 2-3 paragraph summaries. Students may need to research more than 5 articles so they are well-informed of the topic. Summaries should be comprehensive and look to connect what is said in the article to other articles and HRM or other business knowledge.  The topics are broad to provide space for each student to explore the topic as they desire; however, by Sunday 11:59 pm  the discussion board post is due. This post must for each article: -Provide the title and APA reference for the article -Provide a summary of the article -The implications the article has on HRM and/or business.   -Connections which may be made between the article with other discussions within this class, as well as other material from previous classes, including previous HRM classes. Part of this connection should include how to consider this within the strategy of the organization, and appropriately identifying the topic within an internal/external scan. So, discussion of general environment (political, social, economic, legal) is required as well.  Discussion Board Post: Specific Topic The second week’s discussion board post requires that each student identify a specific topic within the general topic introduced in the first week. Students should explain why they are choosing this specific topic within the area. In doing so, students should also address its importance to HRM, management, and why.  In addition to identifying other articles on the topic, students are required to identify two journal articles and summarize them as done for the first week’s discussion boards. These summaries should be about 300 words each. It is at this point students should begin thinking about what their thoughts are on the topic and formulate an outline of the op-ed they will submit at the end of the third week. The post is worth 5 points.  Op-Ed At the close of each 3-week block, students will submit their own op-ed on the specific topic identified in week 2. The oped should be less than 1000 words, preferably 700-800 words. Links to sources, definitions, or other articles should be included within the writing, if necessary. If this is done, be sure that you create a hyperlink within the document, as well as copy and past the hyper link in parenthesis next to the word that would be considered the link.  As it is an op-ed, you must take a side, advocating in a compelling, yet civil and respectful manner. There may also need to be a recommendation of a course of action, so be sure to formulate your argument appropriately. Within the op-ed, overt reference must be made to the topic in reference to business management and connected to HRM and the workforce.

Risk Assessment of Germany and Greece

The final paper will asses the comprehension and applications of the following course objectives: CO4: Compare and contrast the EU enlargement issues from the perspective of established and transitioning democracies. CO5: Apply the results of the integration and expansion to current political issues of EU member states. Six-page analysis as set forth below. The final assignment should have no fewer than six substantive sources. It’s an art writing to a limit, so please do not go beyond the six pages. You do not need a cover sheet but please put a header on your paper (Word – insert header) that includes your name, the course, the assignment, date, and page numbers. The References List does not count toward the page limit. Description of the Final Assignment Project For this assignment, we need to suspend reality a little and imagine that our class is providing a political risk assessment for a company in the United States that wishes to set up a manufacturing and distribution facility in Europe. The product is wood pellets for heating fuel created from biomass. See this article: Manufacturing Fuel Pellets from Biomass. The company is interested in manufacturing the dies to shape/form the pellets as well as producing the pellets. The plan is to vertically integrate production as much as possible and then market the product directly to the European market. There is some interest in separating the two processes (the die manufacturing and the production of the pellets) in different locations if that increases efficiency. The company in the USA has said that it wishes to do business only with European Union states. See: European Union – Countries. It will, however, consider candidate states if we show a compelling reason. As members of the class (and thus the consulting group), you are to choose two states – one from the established democracies and one from the transitioning states as set out in the Week One announcement. You will do a comparative analysis between the two and present a six-page paper in Week Seven that provides your analysis of economic, political, and social factors that would show the risks associated with doing business in these states. No state is risk-free – and there’s no perfect place to do this project. But as a consultant, your role is to provide the best analysis possible to the client company given the current conditions. You should look to the past for background and to currents trends to understand what’s happening in your state and why. Research Plan for Political Risk Assessment In Week Three, you will present your two states and a brief synopsis of what you consider to be risk in the three areas (economic, political, and social). This research plan should be about 350-400 words. Then present a formal References List (in alphabetical order by author’s last name) in Turabian format that includes at least two peer-reviewed sources on the background to the three risk areas. Presentation of the Final Assignment In Week Seven, you will present the final assignment. It will have a one-page introduction, four pages total comparing the two states’ economic, political, and social risks, and a conclusion. This product will be done in 12-point font in Word and will have subheadings that delineate the sections of the paper. Introduction Economic Risk Factors both states Political Risk Factors both states Social Risk Factors both states Conclusion References List Assignment Rubric – 300-400 Level Focus/Thesis 00/20 Economic Risk Factors (both states) 00/20 Political Risk Factors (both states) 00/20 Social Risk Factors (both states) 00/20 Sources, Organization, and Writing Conventions 00/20 Total 000/100

Isolation

Need to discuss THREE poems. After you’ve read each poem, respond to the discussion thread for the corresponding poem. What do you believe the poem is about?  What does the poet specifically do to communicate this idea?  The more precise and in-depth you can be in your discussions, the better. For example, don’t just say the poem is about “love” or “death” or “isolation.” Instead, tell us what the poem is saying ABOUT “love” or “death” or “isolation.   Next, you need to respond to TWO postings by your classmates–make sure they are on poems you didn’t post on originally. (There is no word count for your responses, but a mere “I agree!” will not count as a complete response. Engage with their ideas.) Dickinson’s “Because I Could not Stop for Death” p. 577  Roethke’s “My Papa’s Waltz” p. 380  Frost’s “Out, Out–” p. 371  Hughes’ “Theme for English B” p. 389  Brooks’ “We Real Cool” p. 482 Bishop’s “The Fish” p. 434 Bishop’s “The Fish” p. 434
