Risk Assessment of Germany and Greece
The final paper will asses the comprehension and applications of the following course objectives: CO4: Compare and contrast the EU enlargement issues from the perspective of established and transitioning democracies. CO5: Apply the results of the integration and expansion to current political issues of EU member states. Six-page analysis as set forth below. The final assignment should have no fewer than six substantive sources. It’s an art writing to a limit, so please do not go beyond the six pages. You do not need a cover sheet but please put a header on your paper (Word – insert header) that includes your name, the course, the assignment, date, and page numbers. The References List does not count toward the page limit. Description of the Final Assignment Project For this assignment, we need to suspend reality a little and imagine that our class is providing a political risk assessment for a company in the United States that wishes to set up a manufacturing and distribution facility in Europe. The product is wood pellets for heating fuel created from biomass. See this article: Manufacturing Fuel Pellets from Biomass. The company is interested in manufacturing the dies to shape/form the pellets as well as producing the pellets. The plan is to vertically integrate production as much as possible and then market the product directly to the European market. There is some interest in separating the two processes (the die manufacturing and the production of the pellets) in different locations if that increases efficiency. The company in the USA has said that it wishes to do business only with European Union states. See: European Union – Countries. It will, however, consider candidate states if we show a compelling reason. As members of the class (and thus the consulting group), you are to choose two states – one from the established democracies and one from the transitioning states as set out in the Week One announcement. You will do a comparative analysis between the two and present a six-page paper in Week Seven that provides your analysis of economic, political, and social factors that would show the risks associated with doing business in these states. No state is risk-free – and there’s no perfect place to do this project. But as a consultant, your role is to provide the best analysis possible to the client company given the current conditions. You should look to the past for background and to currents trends to understand what’s happening in your state and why. Research Plan for Political Risk Assessment In Week Three, you will present your two states and a brief synopsis of what you consider to be risk in the three areas (economic, political, and social). This research plan should be about 350-400 words. Then present a formal References List (in alphabetical order by author’s last name) in Turabian format that includes at least two peer-reviewed sources on the background to the three risk areas. Presentation of the Final Assignment In Week Seven, you will present the final assignment. It will have a one-page introduction, four pages total comparing the two states’ economic, political, and social risks, and a conclusion. This product will be done in 12-point font in Word and will have subheadings that delineate the sections of the paper.
