1. Identify each component of the communication process and discuss how they interact be sure to address where miscommunications are likely to occur. 2. Identify each step of precipitation Process and what it entails then discuss how miscommunication can occur. Be sure to provide an example. 3. Identify each of the translation problems that can become barriers to miscommunication and discuss what they entail. Be sure to provide an example for each.

For this case study, you will be researching the Feminism. There are various types of feminism that women AND men identify with. For example Xicanisma or Chicana Feminism, Black Feminism, Hood Feminism, Hip-Hop Feminism, Radical Feminism, Social Feminism, Intersectional Feminism, and more. You are welcome to focus on one of the examples provided, you can also only focus on Feminism and not a specific type of feminism, your choice! As you are researching, be sure to answer all of the questions posed for this assignment: Identify the mental, behavioral, and material layers of this subculture (review Ishii’s Model of Culture on page 28). What are the core symbols and norms of this sub-culture? Can you identify some common saying or phrases commonly used within this sub-culture to encourage “appropriate” sub-culture behavior or thought? Speech Codes (pp219-221) Can you identify how the dominant culture reinforced and justified the status quo towards this sub-culture? (through prejudice, stereotypes, media, etc) How did these justifications influence the social context of the sub-culture? How did this social context influence how this subculture communicated? Essay Requirements: APA student paper standards: title page, reference, doubles spaced, Time New Roman font, 12pt. In-text citations required a minimum of 2. you do not need an abstract! Review the APA resources in the Knowing the Course module for more information. 2-3 pages, 2 scholarly references (you can use your textbook as one).

Instructions for Term Paper 1 Research your own culture and another culture that you wish to study using research reports published in academic journals, ethnographies, interviews, and published reference materials. A minimum of six sources should be used to document information in the literature review, two of which must be published research reports or ethnographies. In addition, students are to use members of the subject culture for at least two sources. 2. The literature review should begin with an introduction, no more than one and a half pages in length, followed by a logically organized and detailed report from the available literature that answers 6 out of the 12 research questions listed below for this project. If you wish to use research questions not listed below, you must meet with the instructor for approval. The term paper should be about 20 pages in length, not including the reference section and in double spacing. 3. Write the paper according to APA style guidelines. This especially applies to the use of in-text citations and the reference section. Note: This paper is a formal research paper and should be written in third person. 4. The “reference” section should include only those references that are actually cited. 5. What are some of the language or dialectical differences found in this culture? 6. How are the various social or gender roles viewed in this culture? 7. Do the family structure and roles differ in this culture? If yes, in what ways? 8. For someone going to this culture for a study abroad or a work assignment, what information would aid her/his cultural adjustment? 9. How does this culture’s history influence perception and communication between this culture and your own culture? 10. How does this culture’s government I political structure influence perception and communication between this culture and your own culture? 11. What are some of the stereotypes people of your culture have about people in the culture you have studied? What are the bases for these stereotypes? 12. It is clear from the discussion, based on personal thought, why the questions are important to understanding how to communicate competently in the culture. Sufficient literature, from at least six sources, is used to answer the questions thoroughly. Uncited ideas or categories are original thought. Quotations are not over used. Your six research questions have been identified and the answers to the questions are clear. You are careful not to go off on tangents, and you have clear transitions between ideas and paragraphs. For the three-page media poll analysis, you will need to find a news article published on or after 1 June 2020. This news article must reference at some length the results from a reputable public opinion poll. Using specifics from Sheldon and Gawiser’s “20 questions” (APPLIED UNDER FILES) reading, evaluate the news article on two fronts: (1) How well did the journalist do his/her job in asking the 20 questions?, and (2) To what extent do you agree or disagree with the conclusions drawn the journalist? This assignment requires an essay-style write-up. Do not submit the assignment as twenty sentences or short paragraphs. Do not use a press release or report put out by a polling agency. An article written by Lydia Saad of the Gallup Organization that appears on www.gallup.com does not constitute a news article for the purposes of this assignment. However, you may use an article in the Seattle Times that cites at length the poll Saad wrote about originally. You will need to submit a copy of the actual news article along with your write-up. A write-up submitted without the article will be deemed incomplete and a late penalty will be incurred until the full assignment has been submitted. In June 2018, a federal judge approved the merger of AT&T and Time Warner, rebuffing the government’s effort to block the $85.4 billion deal. We learned about the concept of vertical integration in Chapter 3. This merger is an example of vertical integration. AT&T operates primarily in the area of distribution while Time Warner owns various companies in the area of production (e.g., CNN, HBO, TBS) In this independent exercise you are required to answer the following question: Was the federal judge correct to approve the merger?
