ZOOM Describe and Organization Paper- The first “reaction” paper requires you to write a description of an organization of which you have been a member. Examples could include sports teams, church groups, places of employment, fraternities or sororities, etc. In addition to naming and describing the type of organization, you will also select 3 of the following topics to address in your paper: o    purpose, vision, mission, valueso size, structure (flat or tall hierarchy, team design or other)o    types of policies and ruleso    types of leadership and managemento    a description of how you perceive the organizational culture to beo    types of interpersonal relationships existing within the organizationo    recruiting and interview types and processeso    types of interaction internal and external to the organizationAll papers should have a clear introduction of 3-5 sentences that introduces the topic and previews the paper (In this paper I will…).  Following the introduction, you should write at least one paragraph per main point, or question asked in the assignment instructions (see rubrics below).  The last paragraph needs to be a conclusion that summarizes the main points of the paper.Follow this guide when writing academic papers – Tell us what you are going to tell us (introduction), tell us (body), then tell us what you just     paragraphs are generally 5-7 sentences   –introduction should include a thesis and a preview of the main points of the paper–conclusion should include a summary and concluding statement–transitional sentences should be included–identifying information should include: name, date, course, assignment, page numbers–be sure to include section headings and sub-heading to highlight the main points (questions)

Describe a potential work-related problem caused by mistaken or misguided use of social media. Conclude with a recommendation to ensure a similar problem doesn’t reoccur. Describe a workplace situation in which fallacious reasoning caused both unnecessary conflict and expense. Conclude with a recommendation to ensure a similar problem doesn’t reoccur. Market yourself to a potential employer by convincing them you are an ideal candidate for a position. Demonstrate your understanding of the related duties and responsibilities, explain your suitability, and describe the benefits of employing you. Although it doesn’t necessarily have to be a position that’s currently posted, the job should be one you aspire to hold after graduation (or as a step up from your current post). Post your presentation to ‘Media Gallery’; include a short title in the ‘Name’ box as well as a self-evaluation of its effectiveness (four to five sentences) in the ‘Description’ box. Further Guidelines: Online audio-visual interaction is becoming increasingly common such as when job candidates are interviewed via Skype, FaceTime, or other real-time interactive platforms to save time and travel costs. Increasingly, many individuals post a short video report on their personal web site or social media page in order to market themselves to potential employers. Indeed, the ability to connect through video reporting is a skill that can differentiate you from others and significantly work to your professional advantage. This is as an opportunity to demonstrate you can write and organize information in a way that can be effectively communicated in a basic video report format. Frame your visual as a head and shoulders or upper body shot. Be yourself in order to appear natural, but also aim to convey a professional ethos. The essence of any effective business message is to come across in a serious-minded and persuasive way, so make your points clearly and convincingly. The only visual aid required in your presentation is yourself. It’s not just what you have to say but how you say it, so convey interest in your topic. Someone who looks or sounds bored can’t expect their audience to find them engaging. Someone who sounds rushed or disorganized will also be less effective. Someone who is difficult to understand is obviously unlikely to be persuasive. While an online oral report might seem like an easy task to some students, it can be a challenge to ensure your content and delivery come across the way you want, i.e. clear, meaningful, and persuasive. It’s not uncommon to have quite a few ‘takes’ before you’re satisfied. If you get 99% through it error-free only to misspeak a word or two in the last sentence, you’re certainly not alone. You may, if necessary, speak for up to eight minutes at the very most in order to present the content to your satisfaction. See the guidelines for recording and uploading your report. To make sure the video presentation software works properly with your computer, post a test video you can then check for acceptable visual and sound quality. I have to respond in essay form to the following discussion using my text book as the source. The text book is Communication by Morale, Spitzberg, & Barge, 3rd Edition. The material from the text book needs to come from Chapter 3. In the response essay, we are to use specific examples from Chapter 3 to offer a retort. The role of communication is vital when it comes to the perception of yourself to others and to you. The way we communicate with others is one of the first things people are going to make assumptions upon. If we speak to someone in a polite and dignified way, they may interpret us in a better way rather than if we were to speak to them in a rude manner, interupting them, and not paying attention to what they have to say. I hate to say it, but aside from communication, I think the only thing people make more assumptions of you is based on your appearance. However, I believe this to be very unfair, as people have different styles, ways of living, and wealth. The way we communicate with others can show what kind of person we are to them, it can also show your tendencies. When we speak in a polite way, we may perceive ourselves as respectful. When we lose our cool in a conversation, we may think ourselves as angry, rude, or disrespectful and regret it the moment after it’s done. Not only does communication play a role in the way we are perceived, but as does our culture. Growing up in different generations, we were taught different tendencies, behaviors, and even communication skills. Current generations may speak in a certain way that older generations find disrespectful and vice versa. Times have changed and things that were not normalized back in our grandparents time are now accepted. This is something that makes it difficult to interact with one another. They were taught differently than what we were taught was acceptable and it causes communication amongst each other to be difficult. In one aspect we may want to tell them they are wrong and they can’t behave or think like that anymore. At the same time, we are taught to respect our elders. Even if we made an attempt to change their beliefs/behaviors, I’ve come to find out that most have acted in this manner for so long, they view it as the only correct way. Situations like these can really hinder our interactions between one another, but they will still occur so we must find a medium ground.

In June 2018, a federal judge approved the merger of AT&T and Time Warner, rebuffing the government’s effort to block the $85.4 billion deal. We learned about the concept of vertical integration in Chapter 3. This merger is an example of vertical integration. AT&T operates primarily in the area of distribution while Time Warner owns various companies in the area of production (e.g., CNN, HBO, TBS) In this independent exercise you are required to answer the following question: Was the federal judge correct to approve the merger? Why or why not? Your response should include the following: What was AT&T’s rationale for desiring the merger? What kind of support did they offer for their argument? What kinds of companies and organizations opposed the merger? What do you perceive to be the opponents’ key arguments? What kind of support did the opponents provide to support their arguments? What side do you come down on and why? The paper should be based on a minimum of 4 sources (excluding Wikipedia). The paper should be 2-3 pages in length.
