You will listen to a speech given by Fannie Lou Hamer, at the Democratic National Convention  in 1964, read some background information about her, and write about her speech by applying  course concepts to the speech. Upload it to canvas by the due date.  1. Read the biographical information and context on Fannie Lou Hamer, in the document  titled “Fannie Lou Hamer Background Info.” The file is available in the same place in  canvas where you found this document you are reading now, in the extra credit  assignment description.  2. Then watch/listen this video (https://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/fannielouhamercredentialscommittee.htm ?in full.  That link has both the full transcript of the speech  and a YouTube video, which you should play to hear the full audio of her speech. You  must listen to her speech; simply reading it is not sufficient.  3. Choose 1-2 relevant course concepts from the textbook. By course concept, I mean key  terms from the book, like narrative, extended examples, one of the delivery styles, or one  of the organizational patterns named in the book (the terms in bold in the textbook are  likely good options. They will not all be equally useful, but part of your job is to find a  relevant idea from public speaking that applies to the speech). 4. Write 250-300 words explaining how the course concept(s) you selected applies to the  speech you watched or was present in the communicative interactions at the event you  attended.  a. I would expect this to be approximately 1 page double spaced.  b. Make sure you articulate a clear thesis in the first couple of sentences. Your thesis  should simply articulate the relationship between the course concept and Hamer’s  speech. c. Clearly define your course concept(s) in your introduction and provide support for  your definition by citing the textbook.  d. Then support your thesis with evidence. You should do this both by citing the  textbook at least once and by quoting/paraphrasing the speech. e. Most importantly, explain what the course concept(s) you selected tell us about  the speech. What do they illuminate or illustrate for us about Hamer’s speech?
