Please read, “Contemporary Issues in Family Studies: Global Perspectives on Partnerships, Parenting and Support in a Changing World” in our readings to complete the discussion this week. While most people can identify the issues affecting American families, not many people understand what goes into the development of family policy, let alone agree on what the role of government should be regarding families. Based on your experience and what you learned this week, what are the principles that should guide the development of family policy? Please share your “take away” from the reading this week. For example, did you learn anything new or did anything surprise you? Feel free to use outside scholarly sources to complete this discussion as well.

Development and Inheritance Utilizing knowledge from your learning and assigned readings, respond to the following questions: What activity during oocyte activation prevents penetration by additional sperm? Outline the events that take place between exposure of the oocyte to spermatozoa and formation of the first blastomere pair. List and briefly characterize the three trimesters of gestation. Describe the events of embryonic development from conception until the fetal stage, including development of the primary germ layers. List and describe the three stages of labor.

After you have read and annotated your text, you will have an abundance of evidence to draw from for your essay. Arrange your best ideas under claims about your text. The analysis should form the majority of the paper and be organized under central ideas. Each claim you make should have evidence from the text to back it up (use direct quotes).

Select one of the options below to complete this assignment. Often conflict can escalate in conversations about privilege, power, and difference. Reading about these topics can sometimes leave us with this sense of not knowing what to do next.     Pick one option from below. Complete the option, do not just turn in a reflection on what you might choose. Your project from start to finish will be a 10 hour commitment throughout the term.    Service-Learning Issue Area: Create awareness of conflict arising from the intersections of privilege, power, and difference Direct: This option is not available due to COVID-19. Indirect: Watch an event (such as a rally or a speech) in which the participants and organizers do not share your cultural background. Without interviewing anyone, what conflicts do you notice? What are the positions and interests in these conflicts? Advocacy: Create a program that addresses privilege power,and difference in conflict. This project can double with something you are already involved in with another organization. Research: Locate a letter to the editor or opinion piece from the time period of one of the articles from the first part of the Service Learning. What is the conflict according to the author in the piece you selected? What are the positions and interests of each party involved? How does privilege inform the positions and interests? identify a current organization that cares about what you just wrote. Consider interviewing the organization staff as a source for the final question. Ask them if they could think of a way to use your paper, e.g. in their newsletter, as a letter to the editor, etc What present day issues are similar to the issues intertwined in these populations?

Unit 2 B A test that has not been validated or normed for minority consumers is used as part of the agency’s battery for employment-predictive purposes. When you challenge the evaluation supervisor on this issue, he replies, “That measure has not been proven to be biased. The agency expects you to use this test, and we do have other methods that you can use that will provide information on employability.” Is this ethical? Professional? Unit 9 A What is your position regarding the need for vocational evaluators to conduct an assessment of personality functioning. Unit 9 B The consumer is apparently quite angry over the sudden onset of a crippling, physical disability. How would you go about measuring this anger, and is such measurement even necessary or possible? Unit 9 C In personality functioning, there are many positive and negative stereotypes of personality behaviors for African American and Asian men and women. What are some of these positive and negative stereotypes and how are they facilitative or detrimental to accurate personality assessment? Unit 9 D How can an assessment situation be created so that personality assessment is an empowering experience for the consumer with a disability? Unit 10 A Standardized measurement for learning styles may not be readily available. What are other ways to explore a consumer’s learning style? Unit 10 B What is your dominant learning style? Are you more of a visual, auditory, or hands-on learner, and have you been able to use your dominant learning style in new situations requiring a rapid retention of information? Unit 10 C Multiple aptitudes are usually required for successful performance in a particular employment area. Your 33 year-old consumer is interested in a promotional job with a large record company. He has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that is now in remission. Identify the aptitude required for successful performance of this job. Please ensure that each question is labeled and titled with unit and section letter separately. Pages for each Unit will be attached.

Image that you had children if you do not, would you want your children to experience the same family communication style that you learned? What lessons in family conflict would your children learn from you? Please be sure to connect to the concepts from the textbook and address the following Identify what type of family you think you had and why? What were/are the rules and structure for family behavior? Where there any family patterns in the conflict? What were they? One critique of neoliberal globalization is that it protects corporate interests while transferring economic risk, volatility and uncertainty onto workers. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Provide evidence from the week 7 materials. 2.What connections do you observe between the issues experienced by migrant workers outlined in this week’s materials, and themes from weeks 5 and 6 on Globalizing Development (ex: food security, agribusiness, free markets, debt, trade etc.)? (3 points to incooperate 1. Analyse how labour has changed under neoliberal globalisation; 2. Situate contemporary changes to labour and increased social inequality within global production systems; 3. Explore conditions of migrant labour through the case study of migrant farm workers in Canada.

Each student will participate in an experiential activity that will give insight into another culture.(I am African American so please choose a group other than mine) The purpose of the immersion is to heighten your awareness of a diverse group, so you should pick the type of experience that will give you the most potential for personal development. Obviously, papers will vary based on students’ experiences. You could attend a religious service different from your own, volunteer to assist at an event that has a culture predominately different from your own, spend a night with a family of a different culture, visit another country, etc. The expectation is to interact in this environment, not simply observe. Also, make note of your feelings during this experience. From your experience you should write a 4-5 page report including: 1) a summary of the event 2) your feelings before, during, and after the immersion experience 3) discuss cultural strengths, attitudes, beliefs of the diverse group you discovered; 4) discuss attitudes, beliefs you brought into the experience (reflection of self-awareness, personal biases, stereotypes, etc.) 5) describe what counseling approach and culturally appropriate strategies you would select if working with someone from this culture for counseling students OR describe what strategies/approaches you would use to address needs of the culture in your setting (higher education, work, coaching practice, etc)
