[SOLVED] Healthcare Is Failing Black Women

“Write for a Cause” Argument Essay Information To-Do Date: Jul 8 at 8:00am Objective: Students will connect the various modules in the course to the objective of the final exam. Objective: Students will use the elements of persuasion to support their topic. Objective: Students will connect research methods to write an argument essay. Connecting What You’ve Learned This Semester This semester we started our journey by learning about ourselves through the MyPlan assessment and going through the self-reflective process of finding a “cause” we could connect to your personal or professional growth. As we learned more about ourselves and our natural abilities, we were able to think more earnestly about what we want to see changed or improved in the world. This led us to our “Write for a Cause” research topic and our journey to this point commenced from there. Here’s an overview of what you’ve learned that is applicable to your final exam. For the final exam you will: Use the sources you discovered and summarized in the Preliminary Bibliography and Annotated Bibliography. Use the power of persuasion as you did in the Research Proposal essay. Create claims for topic sentences, offer evidence and write warrants for the information in your body paragraphs as you did in the Short Answer Response module. Use the same essay format as the Analytical Essay where you: (1) create an engaging introduction that leads to a strong thesis (2) offer research responsibly in well-developed body paragraphs (3) write a strong conclusion using the reflect and project method where you leave a lasting impression on your audience. FINAL EXAM ARGUMENT ESSAY (10%) The argument essay should be over the “Write for a Cause” topic that you posed in the preliminary research assignment. For the final exam essay, you will write an argument essay on your topic using factual information gathered from your research. Your intent is to persuade, so you will use the subjective tone. For the final exam, you should: Take a stance on your topic and argue for your cause. This essay should be persuasive, and it should offer factual evidence and warrants to support the claims made in your essay. You may include personal anecdotes to support your ideas as well. If you choose to use anecdotes to support your claims, they should be contextualized and supported by research. Research should go either before or after each anecdote. Please Note: The ONLY difference between the analytical essay and the final exam essay is that your intent is to persuade me and any other audience you imagine to support your “Write for a Cause” topic. The analytical essay and the argument essay are NOT the same essays. They should have two separate thesis statements and offer different forms of evidence. You will use the same strategies for writing the introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs as was used in the analytical essay. Please see the information in Module 6 and review the webinars for help with strategies for developing your paragraphs. [SOLVED] Right To Experimental Drugs

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW Do patients with no other treatment options, including those who are not able to participate in a clinical drug trial, have a moral right to unproven drugs? In this week’s assignment, you will create an argument in which you explore this issue and explain and defend your views. ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS A RIGHT TO EXPERIMENTAL DRUGS? This week, you learned about the rigorous process of clinical trials that test new drugs before being approved for treatment. The process, which involves three distinct phases of testing, takes a great deal of time, with some trials lasting many years. Before approval, patients not part of a clinical trial have limited or no access to experimental drugs, even though these drugs could be helpful and potentially save their lives. Early stages of research on a drug sometimes suggest that the drug could be effective in treating a certain disease. But without going through the full clinical trial process, doctors do not know if the drug is effective at all. The vast majority of experimental drugs turn out to be completely ineffective, and the drug might have very dangerous side effects. THEREFORE, DO PATIENTS WITH NO OTHER TREATMENT OPTIONS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLINICAL DRUG TRIAL, HAVE A MORAL RIGHT TO UNPROVEN DRUGS? IN OTHER WORDS, DO THESE PATIENTS HAVE A MORAL RIGHT TO THE SAME DRUGS AVAILABLE TO PATIENTS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN A CLINICAL TRIAL? CREATE AN ARGUMENT THAT EXPLAINS AND DEFENDS YOUR VIEW ON THIS ISSUE. IN ADDITION TO REVIEWING YOUR TEXTBOOK, YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO LOCATE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES IN THE LIBRARY, YOUR PUBLIC LIBRARY, OR AUTHORITATIVE ONLINE SITES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR YOUR VIEWPOINT. Explain how the principle of informed consent is relevant to the issue. Explain the costs and benefits of making unproven, unapproved experimental drugs available to patients not participating in clinical drug trials. Consider the costs and benefits not only to the individual patients who take these drugs but also potential costs and benefits to other patients. Articulate arguments using examples for and against offering pre-approved drugs to wider pools of patients. Support your view using ethical theories or moral principles (or both) that you find most relevant to the issue. Exhibit proficiency in clear and effective academic writing skills.
