We all know COVID19 continues to affect us all.  Discuss how it has affected and continues to challenge you (and perhaps your family, friends and pets, too)! There is nothing to study…just show me your baseline skills.  I will say, don’t overdo…60 minutes max!  I hope to see that you are able to prepare a basic 5 paragraph essay with a strong, well-developed thesis sentence.   This is assignment represents 5% of your final grade

Describe a clinical situation where you were concerned (e.g., a higher incidence of falls, infections, errors, etc.) and where decisions were made to improve the situation. What sources of evidence were utilized to make the decision (e.g., personal experience, expert advice, etc.)?

How would you as a healthcare executive or policymaker increase the efficiency of the U.S. healthcare system? To answer this question, consider that there are reasons for the current high U.S. healthcare expenditures: The USA does not regulate the price for healthcare services – using, in most cases, a free-market approach to determine prices. The demographics of the U.S. population is skewed towards the elderly and age and cost increase together. The U.S. population as a whole is a nation of people with multiple chronic diseases like HTN and DM and obesity. The consequences of several lifestyle choices contribute to the high cost of chronic care. The U.S. healthcare system does not seem to work as well as other healthcare systems in the world. How are efficiency and effectiveness related? Can you have both? Make sure to provide credible evidence to support your ideas.

When asked whether she makes her own shampoo at home, Dr. Woodruff says “Oh, my God, no” and explains that this is why we need the EPA and where policy comes in. What does she mean by this? How can EPA ensure that people don’t need to make their own shampoo to stay safe from chemical exposures? 2. Dr. Woodruff stresses that public policy is about taking the science we have and using it with other non-science factors that are important for making a decision. For instance, if we know that BPA is harmful to human health, policy-makers must still consider other factors before deciding whether to ban or limit population exposures to BPA.  It may seem to you that healthcare has been a national topic of debate among political leaders for as long as you can remember. Healthcare has been a policy item and a topic of debate not only in recent times but as far back as the administration of the second U.S. president, John Adams. In 1798, Adams signed legislation requiring that 20 cents per month of a sailor’s paycheck be set aside for covering their medical bills. This represented the first major piece of U.S. healthcare legislation, and the topic of healthcare has been woven into presidential agendas and political debate ever since.As a healthcare professional, you may be called upon to provide expertise, guidance, and/or opinions on healthcare matters as they are debated for inclusion into the new policy. Sleep disorders are conditions that result in changes in an individual’s pattern of sleep (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Not surprisingly, a sleep disorder can affect an individual’s overall health, safety, and quality of life. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can treat sleep disorders with psychopharmacologic treatments; however, many of these drugs can have negative effects on other aspects of a patient’s health and well-being. Additionally, while psychopharmacologic treatments may be able to address issues with sleep, they can also exert potential challenges with waking patterns. Explain the difference between professional advocacy and political advocacy (lobbying).  Explain the role of a political action committee.  Determine if a political action committee exists for your profession or intended profession.  If one does not exist, evaluate a PAC in a different allied health profession.
