Creating a Small Non Profit Organization

This project  has several parts. You will be evaluated on each part of this project along with additional components at the end of each week and then at the end of the quarter.   You are creating your own non-profit this quarter. You will be the CEO. You will need several people to be part of your organization. You can choose people from the Year Up program to be part of  your organization or you can recruit from the community or even from your family and friends. You should have at least 4 people (with names, titles and job descriptions for each). Identify each person looking at their background as it pertains to their role in your organization and what their role will be in your organization. This information should be listed in the appropriate location of your project.  This and the answers to the following questions will be included in at least one of your project assignments.  Project 1 – Word (This is the starting project document that will become part of your project scope)  What is the name of your organization?  What does your organization do?  Who does your organization serve? What barriers do you think those people will have and how will your organization help them?  How much money do you think you’ll need to start this organization?  Who/which companies would you like to solicit for money? You can use the Year Up internship list for companies, if you’d like.   Create a letterhead for your company. Be creative, but professional. Use style (whatever this means to you), color and a border  on both the letterhead and on the document. Include your company’s name, your name as CEO, location, phone number, email address and web address. You can make up the last three items, but use a real location for your company’s physical address.   On this letterhead, create an introduction letter for each of the companies you are planning to solicit for funds to run your organization. In the body of the letter be sure to include how much you are requesting from them, how you plan to use the money and who the money will serve and why they deserve it.  Mail merge the 5 companies you plan to solicit with their names and web addresses. Include both the main letter and the mail merge in your document upload.  Project 2 – Outlook:  Create a group for your employees in Outlook. Create tasks for them to complete. Snip and include the group and tasks for each person. You can copy and paste these snips into a Word document for upload.  Once you’re done with the other parts of the project, use your group list in Outlook to email them the Word, Excel and PowerPoint parts of your final project. Snip and include this email with your project data. You can copy and paste this snip into a word document for upload.  Project 3 – Excel:  Create a workbook with an appropriate title.  If you have $100K in contract money from those companies, consider the next questions for part of your project.  Where will you house your organization? Look for offices online and gather both locations and rental amounts.  How much salary will you take for yourself and your staff?  How many people will you serve in the first month?  How much money will you allocate for each person?  What overhead costs will you have? Think electricity, water, sewer, rent… look online for those costs and have those costs available for your project.  On the first worksheet, create a spreadsheet of your monthly expenses for the company based on your research for rent, electricity, water, sewer, salaries for your employees (and yourself).   Project the monthly expenses for the year. Make sure your money is projected for each month and fully spent.  Apply a theme to the worksheet – color code and apply styles your columns, rows, title headers and text for each column and row (apply the skills you learned in your Excel projects to make the workbook as professional as possible). Name the worksheet and apply a style to it.  Add a second page with a graph showing how the money will be used. Change the colors and theme to the graph to suit your own style.  Project 4 – PowerPoint:  Using the answers from the questions at the beginning of this page, create a PowerPoint that you would show to prospective investors in your company. This PowerPoint should be at least 10 slides including a title and conclusion slide, with theme, color, pictures that are appropriate for the topics, transitions between slides, animation for each slide, timings and smart art.  Upload your documents when you’ve finished. You’ll have time in class on December 2 and 4 to complete this final project, although you are welcome to start or complete it off campus.  Project 5 – Project  Scope the project, determine the schedule, timeline, ES, EF, LS, LF and lag times. Determine your resources needs, budget needs, estimated costs and actual costs (as close as possible) and then determine if it will need an RFP or proposal from other contractors. If you will need to send out an RPF or proposal, be specific about what you will need (hint: You’ll be creating this RFP later, so the more work you put into it now, the better off you’ll be later.)

Management Practices

To: New Consulting Team Member From: CEO Re: Research Paper I need you to write a research paper discussing the top management skills. I plan to use this paper in a meeting with our CEO to better direct the management in this company. It is important this paper is written following APA format and cites to references to support your statements. Please see below for very specific directions. Assignment Directions (complete each step) Write a 600 word count paper (word count only counts the subject written in your paper, as headers, title pages, abstracts and reference pages do not as words). Head each section of your paper to correspond to the topics 1, 2, 3 below. This website is very helpful in guiding you regarding APA format: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_style_introduction.htmlf Cover All Three Topics In Your Paper Topic 1 – Research online to find 2 reliable articles/sources that identify 10 of the top management skills according to management experts or management consultants. In a paragraph or two, explain what these articles identify as the top ten skills. Use the learning in the course so far, your experience, and your personal philosophy to explain what you feel are the five of the most important management skills a manager needs to have. Think about how you would like to be treated if you were an employee being managed. Topic 3 – Research online to find 1 reliable article/source that discusses what the experts see as trends for future management and leadership skills. New ways of Communication

I believe that in the next ten years, organizations will gravitate toward adapting to new ways of communication and how those communication lines take form, especially after going through such a nightmare as we have with Covid-19. Having to adapt to new ways of communication such as teleworking, zoom meetings, new avatar settings, and totally new software being learned are all aspects of dramatic changes to take place in the near future. Of the five functions of management, Planning is the basis of control through the use of standards so having to create and maintain new elements of communication will take a lot of change in the planning process. Communication is key upon teams and literally implements change, so spotting new trends, and implementing them will take massive amounts of communication and planning across the board.  I found this site interesting on their perspective to how 2028 will look with a new work philosophy called “We Working”. This philosophy involves designing small and flexible teams in response to fluctuating workloads, shrinking time frames, and intense flurries of information exchange and coordination. “We Working” will encourage businesses to create small, autonomous, and high-performing teams that form, converge, act, and dismantle as assignments change. Fueled by autonomy and trust among teammates, “We Working” reduces the need for human managers to assemble teams and monitor performance.

Pet Food Division

Jack White is the newly appointed general manager of the pet food division of Strickland Corporation. He has completed a strategic review that has convinced him that the division needs to undergo rapid and substantial change in a number of areas, given the recent strategic moves of key competitors. Although Jack is new, he is familiar enough with the company to know that there will be significant resistance to the changes from a number of quarters. He also suspects that some of this resistance will come from people with the capacity to act in ways that could seriously impede successful change. Jack reflects on the situation. He believes that it is important to introduce the proposed changes soon, but he also recognizes that if he acts too quickly, he’ll have virtually no time to have a dialogue with staff about the proposed changes, much less involve them in any significant way. One option is to act speedily and to make it clear that “consequences” will follow for anyone not cooperating. He certainly has the power to act on such a threat. The risk, Jack knows, is that even if no one shows outright resistance, there’s a big difference between not cooperating and acting in a manner that reflects commitment. He knows that he needs the cooperation of key groups of staff and that sometimes “minimum-level compliance” can be as unhelpful as resistance when it comes to implementing change. “But maybe I’m exaggerating this problem,” he thinks to himself. “Maybe I should just go ahead with the change. If people don’t like it, they can leave. If they stay, they’ll come around.” But Jack is not sure. He considers another option. Maybe he should spend more time on building up support at least among key groups of managers and staff, if not more broadly across the organization. “Maybe,” he reflects, “the need to change is not quite as immediate as I think. I just know that I’d feel a whole lot better if this consultation could happen quickly.” Your Task Jack respects your opinion on business matters and has asked you for your views on his situation. What would be your recommendation? What factors should Jack take into account in deciding what course of action to take?

Alliance Supermarket and Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems

Alliance Supermarket and Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems Read the “Alliance Supermarket” case study in Chapter 10 of your text. Alliance Supermarkets has been using a point-of-sale (POS) system for some time to track its inventory. The system uses a laser scanner to read the universal product code (UPC) on each item at the checkout container. The UPC is a number that uniquely identifies the product on which it appears. Currently, Alliance is using the UPC information to update inventory records for each item. Although the system has greatly improved the company’s ability to replenish inventory promptly, the company still has some problems. For example, sudden changes in demand for a particular item can catch the company by surprise as it bases inventory replenishment on historical demand patterns. Further, demand patterns and preferences may vary from one store to another depending on the customers served by each, but the inventory system groups all demand information together and treats each store equally. Finally, the manufacturers that make the products stocked by Alliance Supermarkets are always pressuring Alliance to help them target appropriate customers for special promotions and sales. The chief information officer (CIO) of Alliance realizes that much more could probably be done with the data collected from its POS system. For example, the company could analyze the relationship between each product’s sales and weather patterns. It is even possible to analyze an individual customer’s buying habits and identify instances in which a customer may be persuaded to try a different brand of a certain product. For this assignment be sure to address the following points: Study this situation and formulate new and innovative uses of the information from the POS system. Ideally, these ideas should help Alliance better serve its customers by ensuring that adequate quantities of each item are available, that costs are kept low, and that customers are made aware of new products that may interest them. Describe any information that may help Alliance reduce costs while providing better service. Propose a new approach that could be used by Alliance by using the purchase information that can be obtained on individual customers. Assess ethical and privacy considerations of information gathered from the POS system or purchased items. Your paper should be in paragraph form (avoid the use of bullet points) and supported with the concepts outlined in your text and additional scholarly sources. Submit your three- to four-page paper (not including the title and reference pages). Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center and must cite at least three scholarly sources in addition to the textbook.

Illustrate an Effective Change Management Strategy

For this week’s assignment, you will assume the role of CEO to describe a change you want to implement in your company (either the one you work for now or a fictional firm in an industry you are interested in). Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to address your senior staff, directors, managers, and supervisors. Include the following: Provide a brief overview of the change that you want to implement and the reason for the change. In order for your organization to consider designing a change strategy, your change should be one that you believe will face significant resistance from people within an organization, often because it threatens the existing organizational culture. An example of an appropriate change is a major change in an organization’s structure, a significant technological change introduced into the work process, or a significant change in compensation systems. Generally, the more detail you offer about the change, the easier the rest of the assignment is to complete effectively. Examine Kotter’s and Lewin’s recommended change models. Document how they may help implement the change within a diverse working environment. Identify two other change models, and then explain the processes of each. Choose one (or more) of the four models to best help implement your change, and then defend the model(s) choice. Discuss in some detail your change strategy planning process for using the model(s). This is an excellent place to use elements you found in this week’s assigned readings. Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists and should cite material appropriately. Add audio to each slide using the Media section of the Insert tab in the top menu bar for each slide. Support your assignment with the items in the Books and Resources for this Week. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, should be included. Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide) Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.
