Read the research paper titled, “A Study of the Impact of Three Leadership Styles on Integrity Violations Committed by Police Officers.” You are then to write a reaction paper on this article of at least 5 pages and no more than 6. This paper is to be written in APA format and you must provide at least 5 scholarly references. Each paragraph should be 5-7 sentences . Articles should range from 2018-2020.

Talk about what leadership means to you — what are the qualities of a great leader (and I don’t mean presidents) in whatever field of life, and is there anyone who exemplifies many of those qualities for you?

A Personal TQM Project (one week) TQM project. Create the items that you will track and follow them over a ONE week process. The project should include the following: 1. A student analysis, backed up by the use of at least ONE of the following: the check sheet, a scatter diagram, Histogram, or a Pareto chart. 2. Students are encouraged to assess their strengths and weaknesses and to drop and add items that may be too easy or too impossible to attain. However they are required to continue to track a minimum of ONE and a maximum of FOUR goals. 3.Some students are very wary of revealing their defects to others, or discussing how they are doing except in very general terms. Others are more open to the process, and often get significant help from their peers in reaching or exceeding their goals. Select something generic that you can feel good about. For example, push-ups, sit-ups, yoga exercises, walking, riding a bicycle, ect. 4.The personal quality project can help you to understand how difficult it is for managers to plot data systematically, take corrective action based on facts, or break “bad habits” of producing defective parts. Thus, personal goals, such as “getting to class on time” can be related to “getting to work on time” or delivering the customer’s order on time. “Zero Defects” on the next exam can be as difficult as “Zero Defects” in the factory. “Casting Out Fear” may be illustrated if the professor assigns grades for this project based on whether the students write excellent reports that are well-documented and analyzed, not on whether their defect totals went down a certain amount over the 1 week process, or whether students were pleased or angry with their own results. This can be related to the workplace idea that managers don’t fire employees for producing a defective item if it is beyond their control. 5.Summarize your work in a 4 paragraph synopsis. One suggestion for this summary is as follows: What did I choose as my criteria and why? How did my goals and objectives I selected work, did I have to drop one and add another, and did they help me meet my overall purpose? How has this project helped me to understand TQM better? How hard was this project on a scale of 1 to 10? Was it an easy, if so why, if not, why not)?

The case: Leslie Conrad is a 52-year-old woman who has recently discovered a lump in her breast. Her physician sent her to the hospital for a biopsy, which revealed a malignancy. Unfortunately the cancer has already spread extensively throughout her lymphatic system and has begun to invade her lungs. Even with aggressive treatment (surgery, chemotherapy and radiation), her oncologist, Dr. Arthur Sanchez, predicts she will live no more than six to eight months. Without treatment, Sanchez believes that she will likely live no more than three months. At this point she is generally symptom-free, although she has begun to experience fatigue. Mrs. Conrad’s husband Paul (51-years-old) is an independent custom auto parts fabricator. He has his own shop, and their 25-year-old son Joshua works with him, while also taking mechanical engineering courses part time at the local technical college. Their daughter Liz is a 28-year-old doctoral student at a large university about 300 miles away. She is nearing completion of her dissertation in psychology, and expects to graduate in May, two months from now. Mrs. Conrad tells Dr. Sanchez that she doesn’t want aggressive treatment, explaining that she wants to spend her remaining time at home, not in a hospital. She especially wants to be able to attend her daughter’s graduation. Moreover, she tells Dr. Sanchez that she doesn’t want her family to know about her condition—at least not yet. She knows that at some point her condition will become apparent to at least her husband, and that she will need much more from him then. But right now she wants Liz to focus on finishing her PhD, and doesn’t want her to be worrying about her mom at this crucial time. And Paul and Josh are currently working ten to twelve hours a day constructing suspension systems for six cars for Roush Racing. This is a huge opportunity for them to really establish themselves in the field and Leslie wants them to focus on their work. Dr. Sanchez has asked for your opinion on this case. You are the director of the hospital’s Center for Counseling and Social Support. You are both aware that state law requires that patients’ requests for confidentiality be honored. Yet your experience and knowledge tell you that most families want to be included in end of life plans. You are also concerned that their bereavement may be more difficult if her death is unanticipated. Your four-part assignment (with part 2 having four sub-sections): 1. What/who are leaders? What do they do that is different from managers? How do leaders’ styles differ? What leadership strategies are important during times of crisis? How does one develop new leaders?

Use of first-person and single-spaced formatting is appropriate.  Also, the inclusion of headings/subheadings is not needed  The response must be  well written, well organized, and focused As I worked through the readings of Jacobs et al., I noticed two items in the leading of a group that stood out to me for opposite reasons.  The one item was an area that I felt strong in, and the other was one that I could see being a challenge for myself as a group leader.  Collective cohesion can depend greatly on the abilities of the leader to set the example for the group, and when a group reaches collective cohesion they are truly working together for a common goal (Forsyth, 2019).  My abilities as a leader and my deficiencies will greatly impact the group’s ability to reach collective cohesion.Drawing out was the hardest item discussed by Jacobs et al. I found that I would struggle with since I find myself impatient when a person is reluctant or withdrawn.  The goal of drawing out is to bring members into the group by being involved along with keeping the group on task as it relates to relevant sharing (Jacobs et al., 2016).  My impatience may cause me to miss the opportunity to draw out important emotions, feelings, or thoughts of a group member.  Failing to be good at drawing out members could result in negative impacts against collective cohesion, and it is vital that as a leader I constantly assess my handling of this area.  My strong personality will surely be at its greatest test when it comes to drawing a member out delicately.  Jacobs et al. (2016) describe delicate drawing out as a subtle but important art of a leader who can use soft body language, permissive speech, and gentleness in achieving the opening up of a member to the group (p. 196). The second item and one that I feel more confident in is cutting off.  Simply put, as a police officer, there are often times on the scene of a call where someone begins to speak off-topic or share about things that are not relevant to the case I am investigating.  Jacobs et al. (2016) explain that cutting off a member is an important skill for a group leader in order to maintain the focus of members and to prevent the group from losing purpose (p. 176).  It is equally important however to cut off a member in love and be sure to not be brash.  There is definitely a difference to be noticed between cutting off as a police officer and cutting off as a group leader, however, I do feel comfortable guiding discussion and I think this will be an easier skill to master for myself.
