The purpose of this assignment is to get a deeper understanding of the process of immigration, and the issues immigrants experience when settling in a new place.  For this assignment, you will interview a person who was born outside of the country and is now residing in the United States.  The interview may be conducted in person or by phone, but not by email.  Even if you yourself fit this description, you must interview another person.  You may not use your own experiences for this assignment. Before beginning the interview, write down the questions you intend on asking the subject.  Some issues to explore are: circumstances surrounding immigration barriers or problems encountered attitudes towards American society experiences with racism or discrimination issues of assimilation and/or pluralism During the interview, take notes and/or use a recorder so that you may refer to specific quotes later.  Be sure to get all of your questions answered.  You may come up with new questions as you talk – take note of any unplanned questions. After the interview, write a paper of approximately 3 pages summarizing your findings.Tell the subject’s immigration story and their experience in the United States, paying special attention to the degree to which s/he has assimilated into American society, and their feelings about doing so.In addition to the 3 pages, include a typed list of the questions you asked, making a notation to distinguish between which questions were planned and which were unplanned.  Also be sure to include the form from the Writing Center when you submit your assignment (if applicable).  Please upload it all as one Word or PDF document.
