Film

Describe each of the three basic categories of sound (dialogue, sound effects, and music). Explain how the different categories of sound are used in your chosen film which is Titanic. Assess the impact of sound in establishing the theme. How does the use of sound inform the mood of the scene, or the film, overall? Can you identify specific sounds in your film that allow you to infer a particular genre? Since each category of sound may produce a range of effects, how might you characterize the effects in your film? For example, realistic and expected sound effects may have a different effect on a viewer than exaggerated or unexpected ones. Assess how the scene or sequence would play differently if you changed or removed a key category of sound. You must use at least two outside sources, in any combination of embedded video clips, still photos, or scholarly sources. What was the intent of the film? Start by talking about what the film is and what it was intending to do. In other words – was it a comedy and was written to be that? Was the film successful in that attempt? Based on what you believe the intent of the film was, do you feel it was successful in its attempt? So – if the film was a comedy, was it successful? What is the primary conflict of the story? What are secondary conflicts in the story? Who is the protagonist of the story and who is the antagonist? How were camera angles, lighting, exposure, contrast and color all used to create mood and visual interest? Give at least two specific examples. Talk about the story. Give a short summary of what the film was about Wrap up your critique by talking about the film in general. Did the story engage you? Were you able to identify or empathize with the characters and did they move you in any way? What was your opinion of the film?

After reading the play Angels in America (PART 1: Millennium Approaches) found in your text book, respond to ONE of the following questions with a thorough 800-1,000 word response. For this paper, I need an overview of the filmography of Luis García Berlanga. The major works that need to be presented and analyzed are ‘Bienvenido, Mr. Marshall’ (1953), ‘Plácido’ (1961), ‘El verdugo’ (1963), and ‘La escopeta nacional’ (1978). I advise to also include the rest of his filmography, but with less emphasis. Please, make sure to analyze different themes and stress how Berlanga created sharped and humorous portraits of Spain in those decades.
