Types of Character Flaws

Guidelines for types of character flaws: In most discussions of tragedy, attention is usually paid to the fatal flaw or flaws within the central character. What common types of flaws are exposed in these tragic figures and texts? [Please identify the types of flaws and use them as the organizing principle for your paper.] Title: Use the formula (Catchy Title: Literal Title). Epigraph: Use a quotation from any of the primary texts, secondary sources, or another text that has relevance for the direction of your paper. Thesis: Your thesis should come near the end of your introductory paragraph and should be a direct response/answer to the question regarding the plays. Organization: Your paper should be organized by the ideas raised by your thesis. Do not organize the paper by looking at one text and/or character then moving on to another text/character in a series of discrete discussions. Use main points (topic sentences for your body paragraphs) that are aspects of your thesis and then use the plays to support your ideas. You will, inevitably, use each text in several different parts of your paper. Evidence: Use at least EIGHT brief (no more than four lines in length) quotations from the texts, TWO from EACH of the plays and TWO from at least ONE SECONDARY source (you may use those provided during class or you may find another article or articles from elsewhere, so long as they are from reputable and scholarly sources). This is an absolute minimum. Documentation: Quotations must be documented using an in-text citation. Remember that quotations from A Doll House and Fences will be cited by page number while quotations from Hamlet will be cited by Act, scene, and line number. You will supply a Works Cited page for your three primary texts and the secondary source(s). Sentence writing, mechanics, and manuscript format: Please take good care of your prose; make sure you have proofread and edited your paper before you submit it. Your paper should be formatted according to MLA guidelines Please note: three of the four sources will be provided. The last source will be a secondary source as stated above

Drama

After reading Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, please answer the following questions: and remember to double space and the pages must be numbered. Thank You!! Trifles by Susan Glaspell Trifles premiered on August 8, 1916 at the Wharf Theater in Provincetown, MA. This one act play was based on a murder trial that Susan Glaspell covered as a young reporter in Des Moines, Iowa. Using careful timing, Glaspell delivers subtle revelations that draw the audience and the reader into this play. She definitely intended to sting the conscience of her audience and challenge their perceptions of justice and morality, while also focusing on the different experiences that men and women might have to the exact same objective fact or event. The play raises some interesting questions. Does justice change with perspective? If so, is it possible to handle it fairly? Since it’s first production in 1916 Trifles has become one of the most anthologized works in American theater history and is frequently cited as one of the great masterpieces of American theater. And It is now rightfully considered a masterpiece of the early feminist movement. Later in her career, Glaspell also retold this play as the short story A Jury of her Peers. This is a wonderful play that was once widely known. It shouldn’t linger as a hidden gem, and I encourage you to read this play and then share it with your friends.

Personal Progression as a Writer

Please make sure to read everything! To make sure u understand the instructions.   am interested in your discussion of how you have changed as a person. )!!!!  this is a persuasive essay. Therefore, you are still expected to provide a thesis statement while supporting and developing your thoughts and arguments throughout the paper.!!! At the beginning of this class, you may have thought you knew a great deal about composition and what an English class should be. Many of you may have just completed high school and this is your first college-level English course; whereas some of you may have completed several college-level writing before starting this class. Whatever your experience, you arguably are not the same student when you first began.     Now you are at end of a journey in which you were asked to think outside-the-box and challenge some of your standing beliefs. You argued about many different things in this class. You spent several hours working on papers and trying to perfect a style in writing that will carry you throughout your academic career and allow you to enter the “conversation” of your discourse and major.     You learned about the cardinal rule of rhetoric. You learned about how and why it is important to understand the “baggage” you bring when you read something. You learned what it was to be challenged and rise to that challenge. You learned what it was like to use rhetorical tropes in essays and make them work for you. You learned how to be a college student in an English class.     In a well thought-out essay, discuss your own personal progression as a writer. I would like you to look back at your essays and see if you can identify an evolution in your writing. Look in particular for elements that demonstrate growth. I am not simply looking for you to tell me what you have learned. Rather, I am interested in your discussion of how you have changed as a person.     Here are some questions to consider: Have your outlooks on any particular subjects changed?  Did you accomplish what you set out to accomplish in this class? What can you take from this class and use—in a meaningful way—in other classes? Do you feel you have become a better writer? Why or why not? How?  These are some of the questions you can ask, but certainly not the only ones.     This is your opportunity to demonstrate to me your mastery of the course material. You may want to discuss and incorporate some rhetorical theory, rhetorical tropes, or any other element you used in the class to showcase your talent in their use.     Please note, it would be ideal for you to demonstrate your mastery of the major points discussed in the course. You are not asked—nor are you advised to—attempt to discuss all aspects of the course. This would create a very generic and underdeveloped final essay. Instead, what you should consider doing is picking several aspects and themes (maybe four or five) and focus on how those particular aspects and themes changed the way you now write. You may discuss theories, practices, exercises, etc.  Please note, there is no specific page limit or maximum for this assignment. You are asked to use your best judgement–as far as length is concerned–with this assignment.    Finally, this is a persuasive essay. Therefore, you are still expected to provide a thesis statement while supporting and developing your thoughts and arguments throughout the paper.
