Under-served Victim Populations
Victimization is not a process with clear-cut elements, but rather various across different victim populations, including those that are traditionally underserved by helping professions. Underserved victim populations include the homeless, rural residents, ethnic/racial/sexual minorities and those with disabilities. Each of these populations presents different challenges for helping professionals, including geographic, social and cultural barriers that may cause victims to resist help or reintegration. By Day 4 Post and analysis of an underserved victim population within your current or future field as a helping professional, and post a brief description detailing their demographics and needs. Within this population, identify and evaluate specific issues that impact a successful reintegration for underserved victims, and any insights in overcoming these issues. Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Resources.
