Unconditional Positive Regard
Write a clear, well-organized response to each of the following prompts. Each of your responses should be a minimum of 400 words in length. Review Carl Roger’s theory of a fully functioning person. Think about a current relationship you are in (partner, therapist, friend, parent) and consider which characteristic(s) of being a fully functioning person might be the most difficult for you to overcome? Consider how cultural differences between two people might be a factor in achieving unconditional positive regard. What barriers might exist that would prevent a person from achieving unconditional positive regard? Discuss thoroughly. How can Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs be useful in today’s world? Please spend some time watching the TED Talks video as Chip Conley talks about “Gross National Happiness” – an idea and principle used by the Butanese Government, based on Maslow’s hierarchy. What are your thoughts of the idea of Gross National Happiness? Is this something that we, as a Western society, can accomplish and achieve? Finally, consider about how you can use Maslows hierarchy of needs in your own life. Make a list of your own goals and compare these goals with the hierarchy. Do you believe you are you on the right track to achieving your goals? Why or why not? Are there things you need to do first before accomplishing your goals? If so, what might they be?
