Therapeutic Communication
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of therapeutic communication. Read each of following scenarios. Scenario 1: A 55 year old female who has some difficulty speaking and understanding English arrives in the emergency room. She has severe lumbar pain but wont consent to removing her garment for the radiographs. Her husband insists he accompany her into the imaging suite and only wants a female tech to do her study. Scenario 2: You have been employed with your facility for four weeks and get along fine with everyone except Suzie. She is known to have the reputation of not being a team player. She works the afternoon shift along with you, the only two techs on at that time. During the second week of working together you notice she leaves the floor for extended amounts of time, leaving you alone to handle all the patients. Scenario 3: Your immediate supervisor is one who micromanages the entire department. You begin to notice that she is constantly pointing out issues that demean your character and imply she is not happy with your work. In a meeting, she repeatedly contradicts you and questions your ideas. Write a 2-3 page paper in which you: Identify and briefly define the communication techniques you would use in each of the three scenarios. Describe how and why you would apply those techniques in each situation. Explain what you might do in each scenario if your approach was unsuccessful. Save your file as a Word Document (.doc, .docx).
