The Value Of College
Should we spend money and time on college? Write an argumentative essay on the topic that you chose at the beginning of the course (listed below). You will need to write a question, write a thesis that answers the question, and use evidence to support your argument. You must first choose which structure of argument can best to support your claim. Are you arguing for a solution (proposal)? Or perhaps your claim is best argued using cause and effect. Review chapters 6, 12-16 to choose the best argument. You will want to read the full chapter of the type you chose (for example, if you choose definition, you will read all of chapter 12). These chapters can be found in the unit “Argument Types.” Once you choose your argument structure, gather evidence that supports and counters your argument. You should cite and document sources to support your argument. You can use reading selections in Practical Argument as sources, research your own new sources, or use a combination of the two. The minimum requirements for your final paper are: Your argument paper should be 3-5 pages, double-spaced, in 12-point font Use MLA formatting for citations and headings You must include a Works Cited Paper Incorporate at least 5 sources Here are the available topics with example question (you may choose to create a different question related to the topic): The Value of College (Should every American go to college?) Fake News (What makes new fake? Is fake news harmless?) Social Media (Does social media bring us together or drive us apart?) Opioid Crisis (How should we solve the opioid problem?)
