The Rediscovery of Crime Victims 

Part 1:  The Rediscovery of Crime Victims and the Role of Social Movements Pursuant to your textbook, explain what the “rediscovery of crime victims” means.   Discuss the three social movements that highly contributed to the rediscovery of victims – explain what the 3 movements are, what victims they helped rediscover, and how they contributed to the rediscovery process for those victims.   Part 2:  The News Media’s Role Pursuant to your textbook, explain the role the news media plays concerning the plight of victims and the rediscovery of victims. Provide both negative and positive aspects. Argue that the rediscovery of victims by the news media, elected officials and commercial enterprise is a “mixed blessing.” Fully explain how it can help and also how it can be harmful to victims (this should be done objectively). In your opinion, does the good (rediscovery/attention) outweigh the bad (potential for exploitation)? Are victim’s exploited by the media and by commercial enterprise? Explain.
