[Get Solution] The Legal Authority
Instructions For this task, you will need to prepare a short legal memo that analyzes a case. The purpose of a legal memo is to explain, in an objective tone, a law that applies to a specific legal question or case, and the likely outcome of that question for the client. There are resources for this week that contain information on how to organize and write a legal memo. The necessary sections for the memorandum are the heading, question/issue presented, brief answer, facts, discussion/analysis, and conclusion. You work at law firm in Illinois. The client in this case is Bruce Badger. Bruce is 26 years old and was engaged to Charity Cheetah. Bruce was very much in love with Charity, but he acknowledges that his family had tried to warn him that Charity did not seem to be as committed to him. On their wedding day, Charity did not show up at the church, leaving Bruce standing in front of a church full of people, with no idea of where Charity had gone. Even worse, while Bruce was still in the church, Charity posted an extremely unflattering photo of Bruce, in which he had been caught laughing with food coming out of his mouth, on her social media. Charity had over a thousand social media friends and she knew that her social media feed was followed by many of their mutual friends and some of Bruces family. The photo was captioned with the statement Just couldnt spend the rest of my life with Bruce should be clear why. Bruce has a large raised red birthmark on his cheek that Charity knew that he felt very sensitive about, and it is featured prominently in the photo. A moment later, Charity posted a photo of her embracing another man, with the caption, Sorry, but excited about the upgrade! The man in the photo with Charity was someone Bruce had considered a friend. Bruce felt devastated and humiliated. The story of him being dumped on his wedding day, because of the social media posts from Charity, became well-known locally. For months after the incident, Brad has felt anxious about leaving the house, because of the embarrassment of strangers asking her about Charity. Because of Bruces distinctive birthmark, he is particularly easy to identify as the man in the social media posting. While many people expressed sympathy for him, he also knows that the photo of him posted on the wedding day also was being circulated on social media and was commonly referred to as Dumped Doofus. Bruce worked at an electronics store in the local mall, and because he felt that people were staring at him after the wedding, he asked his boss for a leave of absence, which was granted. Bruce came to the law firm to determine if he has a case for intentional infliction of emotional distress against Charity. The supervising attorney, Tammy Tapir, asked you to write a legal memo, explaining whether Bruce has a valid claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress against Charity. Tammy sends you the names of three cases that she thinks are relevant, although she did not have the full citation. She also asks you to consult at least one secondary authority and include at least one additional relevant cases in your analysis. Public Finance Corporation v.
