The advancements in technology have influenced the healthcare sector in a big way. The health facilities have intensified the adoption of emerging trends, integrating them for the purposes of easing data management. The sophisticated data volumes that these facilities handle each and every day is a true testimony that they also demand a sophisticated technological approach that will ensure the data is captured stored and retrieve din the right manner.
On the other hand, the application of technological trends will also ensure informed decision making for the concerned institutions. In the recent past, I have come across institutions finding it easy to adopt the social media applications, as well as big data analytics for the management of data and distribution of information (Dykes et al., 2017).
To begin with, social media applications have become popular due to their ease in use, wide accessibility, as well as a huge penetration of mobile devices (Skiba, 2017). This translates to a wide reach for the target population where an information spread through an application can reach the target population within seconds. This makes the communication fast and reliable.
On the other hand, big data analytics has also been adopted by many healthcare organizations due to an increasing demand for healthcare professional management in regard to data and information. Although both of these technological trends have brought in immense benefits to the healthcare sector, there are several challenges to their application.
Data privacy and confidentiality is a concern with the social media being the most vulnerable to these issues (Liang et al., 2018). Big data also creates a challenge, both in storage and access of the data where breach of data, data loss or theft can be observed. Legislations such as the HIPAA Act have also affected the way data is managed electronically in order to prevent privacy breach.
With these issues, there demands establishment of protocols and extra safety measures that ensures data and information safety, as well as authorized access.
My view on the most promising data trend is the continued application of the big data informatics. Data is everything in healthcare and healthcare organizations have realized that with good establishments in data management, there can be many benefits that will assist in improvements of the patient care outcomes, efficient service delivery and enhanced data management resulting in informed decision making (Otokiti, 2019).
For example, with big data collected for the patients from the various sectors within the organization, the facilities can be able to compare the number of patients and the services they are seeking in a certain period. This can assist greatly in health planning which will lead to tailored services that will bring improved positive outcomes for the patients.
On the other hand, enhanced data will provide data communication and sharing, therefore speeding up diagnosis. Finally, big data allows for collective data from various departments, thus enhancing decision making processes by enabling an in-depth analysis of the data and information, which gives comprehensive results that are vital in decision making.
