Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Quoting
2 posts DISCUSSION: Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Quoting Class, One of the most difficult aspects of writing within the doctoral journey (and writing in general) is the process of learning to summarize, paraphrase, and quote other works and authors. What does it mean to summarize? How do I paraphrase? When should I use quotation marks? When do I need to offer a citation? Remember that any time you are using the work and words of someone else without giving them credit that is plagiarism. You are essentially stealing from that person. It is not simply enough to change a few words around to make them appear to be your own nor is it enough to cite the reference in the reference list. As doctoral learners, we need to get in the practice of paraphrasing as that demonstrates our ability to critically engage and interact with the text and apply it our own research. This video link is an excellent tutorial regarding summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoCdhJsS6Bw
