Assignment 6 guidelines – Video Reporting – due 5 pm, Monday, July 27 – (Final Assignment) Select one of the following topics for a five to seven-minute persuasive oral report. Describe a potential work-related problem caused by mistaken or misguided use of social media. Conclude with a recommendation to ensure a similar problem doesn’t reoccur. Describe a workplace situation in which fallacious reasoning caused both unnecessary conflict and expense. Conclude with a recommendation to ensure a similar problem doesn’t reoccur. Market yourself to a potential employer by convincing them you are an ideal candidate for a position. Demonstrate your understanding of the related duties and responsibilities, explain your suitability, and describe the benefits of employing you. Although it doesn’t necessarily have to be a position that’s currently posted, the job should be one you aspire to hold after graduation (or as a step up from your current post). Post your presentation to ‘Media Gallery’; include a short title in the ‘Name’ box as well as a self-evaluation of its effectiveness (four to five sentences) in the ‘Description’ box. Further Guidelines: Online audio-visual interaction is becoming increasingly common such as when job candidates are interviewed via Skype, FaceTime, or other real-time interactive platforms to save time and travel costs. Increasingly, many individuals post a short video report on their personal web site or social media page in order to market themselves to potential employers. Indeed, the ability to connect through video reporting is a skill that can differentiate you from others and significantly work to your professional advantage. This is as an opportunity to demonstrate you can write and organize information in a way that can be effectively communicated in a basic video report format. Frame your visual as a head and shoulders or upper body shot. Be yourself in order to appear natural, but also aim to convey a professional ethos. The essence of any effective business message is to come across in a serious-minded and persuasive way, so make your points clearly and convincingly. The only visual aid required in your presentation is yourself. Its not just what you have to say but how you say it, so convey interest in your topic. Someone who looks or sounds bored can’t expect their audience to find them engaging. Someone who sounds rushed or disorganized will also be less effective. Someone who is difficult to understand is obviously unlikely to be persuasive. While an online oral report might seem like an easy task to some students, it can be a challenge to ensure your content and delivery come across the way you want, i.e. clear, meaningful, and persuasive. It’s not uncommon to have quite a few takes before you’re satisfied. If you get 99% through it error-free only to misspeak a word or two in the last sentence, you’re certainly not alone. You may, if necessary, speak for up to eight minutes at the very most in order to present the content to your satisfaction. See the guidelines for recording and uploading your report. To make sure the video presentation software works properly with your computer, post a test video you can then check for acceptable visual and sound quality.
