Helmenstine (2018) defines an independent variable as a variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment to trial the effects on the dependent variable & a dependent variable is a variable being measured in the scientific experiment. In the assessment of the project or intervention is the independent variable. In the event that evaluating a number of diverse approaches or occurrences, each of them is an independent variable. For my project on opioid education among nurses in the hospital setting, the independent variables will be the nurses and the units they are associated. The dependent variables would be the knowledge and confidence levels of the nurses before and after the education. Since I am changing the amount of education they are receiving and their confidence levels on the use and misuse of opioids as well as education provided in discharge teaching, these are all dependent variables. I am measuring the knowledge and confidence gained since they received the new and updated education depend on the new program in place. It is important to pay attention to both of these variables to make sure they are realistic and achievable. Knowing results helps me determine if my solutions were effective. When evaluating the suitable variables to employ for evidence-based research practices, the researcher has to take into consideration the plan of the study or what the research was looking to identify or hypothesize, the participants within the study among other factors (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). In the long run, the research needs to ensure that it has arrived at the essential variables that will permit it to suggest the most favorable values and inclination for effective performance from research to practice within the organization.
The accuracy and reliability of the research will have a direct influence on the design of the assessment research and how appropriately it can utilize them to progress the program or involvement. Therefore, we can begin that the design of the project determines the effectiveness and the end results of the project at hand.
