Writing a text will involve a systematic exploration of something and finding its meaning, then finally drawing information and a conclusion on it. Most of the texts are expressed in the form of written texts like books and essays. Essays remain the most common type of learning material to write texts. Texts do not have a meaning in a vacuum, and thus, it’s unnecessary to rely on the author’s intention.Through analyzing a form of text, a person examining the text may have a different stand than the author. The audience presented to contribute to the text may also have different perceptions of the author or the examiner. Fortunately, texts usually allow the person to examine it and the audience to either agree or disagree with the author’s content and perspective. Texts can be factual or literary; therefore, they have different ways of representation to the audience. Factual texts involve convincing and persuading the audience and the examiner by using facts and actual information. On the other hand, literary texts usually aim to create a particular notion to the examiner’s notion; these notions can be an episode of entertainment and an episode of changing emotions.The texts of interest shall involve writing an essay on the topic of “things they carried.” This is a factual text which should include more in-depth exploration and research to reach an informed opinion or make a complete decision. Therefore, this text aims to enable the examiner to make a decision that is contenting the understanding of the topic. Through viewing the subject, the things, they carried away, the examiner and the audience should be able to make an informed opinion. The text’s suggested activity is an open discussion on the topic of interest’s contentious issue, which is “the things they carried.” The conclusion shall be met by discussing the subject to clarify the subject matter.The “things they carried” is a book that deals with Tim O’Brien’s experience in the Vietnam war. The book explains the historical context of the Vietnam war. To achieve the Vietnam War story, O’Brien argues that he observed a Vietnamese girl dancing among the wreckage once her village. American soldiers had burned down the town. O’Brien further contends that the American soldiers burned the town, which led to many people’s death, including the girl’s parents. The most unfortunate part is that “the village was burned in 1968 when the u.s army conducted the war on the Vietnamese” (DiCicco et al, 131-144). Through observation and examination, O’Brien argues that the town where the war took place is the start of the Vietnam war and writes a historical text about the things they carried and the subject point of view as Vietnam war.The “things they carried” is a book of history which “Tim O’Brien published in New York in 1990” (Zobeck and Mikayla). The description of the text involves literature works about the Vietnam war. The text portrays O’Brien’s personal experiences of the Vietnam war, which reveals the true nature of the war and celebrates storytelling’s power. Moreover, the analysis of the text enhances the reading experience and writing experience to the examiner and the audience, which indeed enhances the great work of fiction. The purpose of the text is to bring to attention to examiners and the audience about the Vietnam war. It aims at engaging understandings and historical concepts to start the Vietnam war. The author of the book is an “American novelist.” called Tim o’ Brien. He is renowned for writing his book the things they carried,’ which involves collecting researched stories about his experiences in the Vietnam war. He is best known for his fictional way research of the Vietnam conflict, which led his book to be referred to as a “Vietnam classic by the New York times” (Mahini et al,). His work involves experiences, his conscious, emotional truth, and things he encountered during his research to write the facts and information about the Vietnam war.According to historical context for “the things they carried.” The Vietnam war was a military battle amid South and North Vietnam. This war involved the communist group against the capitalist group. In this war, the united states and the Soviet Union, known as USSR, were engaged since the united states intensified capitalism while the Soviet Union intensified communism. According to O’Brien, North Vietnam was against south Vietnam, where south Vietnam involved the united states and its allies, while North Vietnam involved USSR and its supporters. “Vietnam is a nation in Asia that was under French colonial until independence” (Mahini et al,). The root cause of the Vietnam war developed after the end of world war II (Vernon and Alex, 194-224). After the united states bombed japan, the berlin-Tokyo axis surrendered, and this led to the end of world war II. However, some countries remained superpowers and had to find a method of earning the victory. Therefore, another war began after 1945, which was a cold war amid the Soviet Union and the U.S. This was due to the ideological differences in economic and political power.The United States were capitalists which were referred to as growing for itself. By so doing united states held the economy with much industrialization since its allies became the source of raw materials. On the other hand, Soviet Union became the communists, which was referred to as growing for all; therefore, Soviet Union started to grow economically since it supported its allies in production (Mahini et al,). The communist group began to help countries injured during world war II economically which led to the withdrawal of some states from capitalism to join the communism group. With the cold war intensifying worldwide, the U.S toughened its rules against any Soviet Union associates.With the superiority of the U.S and its training military, American forces attacked Vietnamese communists around 1955. “The troops arrested about 100,000 persons, tormented and executed them” (Vernon and Alex, 194-224). In 1957, the Vietnamese started fighting back with attacks to government officials and engaging the South Vietnamese military in firefights. This started the Vietnam war. Due to political instability across the south and north united states dropped two bombs on the neighboring Vietnamese. The bomb operation was preordained to interrupt the flow of supplies into Vietnam in order to prevent the rise of communist forces. The bombs reduced countries per capita in the world and this led to the breaking of the war.The war came to an end when “President Nixon signed the peace accords to end direct u.s involvement in the Vietnam war” (Rapold and Nicholas, 8-8). Thereby US troops departed Vietnam and left the north communist in the war, which later ceased firefights. According to “Timothy O’Brien that marked the end of the Vietnam war in 1975.” The effects of the Vietnam war involve massive loss of lives for people, including soldiers and Vietnamese civilians, destruction of properties, displacement of people in their locality, and the collapse of some countries’ economic power. The analysis involves the experiences and research targets of timothy O’Brien.This is a summary text of the topic “the things they carried” by timothy O’Brien with the subject point of view on the Vietnam war (Zobeck and Mikayla). The historical context involves an open discussion of the breaking up and ending of the Vietnam war. The examiner and the audiences may have a different perspective than timothy O’Brien and they, therefore, may agree or disagree with the author’s argument on the things they carried. The examiner or an audience who needs a long exploration to understand the context of the things they took, should know the storytelling experiences and points of view of timothy O’Brien.Many people may agree with the work of o’ Brien since the text gives a clear description of the Vietnam war. This involves real-life situations and real-life experiences of the author. The reason of purpose for many people, an audience to agree with the text, matters the year of birth for the author, which is 1946. Therefore, the author may have experienced what had happened to the Vietnamese in order to come up with the historical context of “the things they carried” (Zobeck and Mikayla). Some other audiences or the examiners may be left in a dilemma about the author’s work of observing a Vietnamese girl in a burned village and drawing conclusions that the town burned was the base for the cold war. Other people may have rhetorical questions of the author’s experience, the field of work, and the field of the conclusion of the event. The historical concept captured by the author in the text may also leave some people in suspense.However, some people may build their capacity of understanding and be able to narrate stories in a contextual way like those of the author. Furthermore, many people may agree with the historical concept of the text and gain experience, knowledge, and skills of creativity and innovation. Creativity can assist some people in future life experience to witness real-life facts information and be able to give to place to the audience through writing articles or representing the contexts by visual arts. Fortunately, some people may agree or disagree with the historical context of the text depending on the different perceptions of the people, that is, the examiner and the audience.The implications of the text about “the things they carried” must evolve to the mind of the audience. On the one hand, the text can enhance the creativity of the audience. This can be achieved by vigorous research on the historical context and deriving a topic of interest to analyze like that of the other. on the other hand, the text can increase the level of understanding of the audience. For example, some of the audience may totally lack the concept of the Vietnam war however on analysis and description of the topic in the text makes them comprehend the concepts and facts information about the Vietnam war fully. Another implication is the audience’s understanding of the political and economic life of some countries in the past, which cannot be portrayed in the current world. Finally, the text is beneficial not only to the audience but also to other people who might have a point of view on the topic of “the things they carried” (Rapold and Nicholas, 8-8).
