[SOLVED] Scholarly Paper Inspired by Course Material

As the culmination of this class, you will each be writing a scholarly paper that is partly inspired by the course material.  This paper should draw from your class discussion threads, the readings and artists introduced.  Think about topics and ideas you’ve generated this semester that you’d like to pursue at a scholarly length and depth.  If you’re debating between multiple topics, feel free to consult with me, as I will be providing guidance at the ideation stage of the assignment. Parameters:  5-6 pages double-spaced or alternative form approved by Jamie (see below) Footnotes & Bibliography  Your Bibliography must have at least 5 scholarly sources, plus as many other sources as you see fit Below is a link of research sources through the library. HMLVirtualServices_Spring2020.pdf Information on the GE PORTFOLIO: http://www.fresnostate.edu/academics/oie/assessment/geportfolio.html   Methodology and Genealogy The primary goal of this course Ideas of Visual Culture: Art, Media and the Computer program is to enable each student to develop her/his/their approaches and processes—unique to her/his/their own aesthetic concerns—to develop further understanding of how culture and images matter.  The goal of the curriculum is to give each student the tools to develop their own methodologies.   The genetic material for any methodology is genealogy. Genealogy is defined as a constellation of historical reference points within which the artist can locate her/him/their selves. The genealogy draws on numerous coordinates including but not limited to art historical periods, specific artists, as well as popular culture, folk culture and historical events, etc.   Treat this paper as an opportunity to begin articulating your genealogy and methodology.  By design, this course has introduced you to a number of critical methodologies being employed by contemporary thinkers and practitioners.  You are welcome to draw upon them or introduce your own reference points, provided that you ground your paper in your blog and discussion contributions.                                     Alternative Forms  Can only be approved if approved by HML Virtual Services You can propose an alternative form for this assignment, which must include:    Roughly the same amount of textual content as a 5-6 page, double-spaced paper A Bibliography of at least 5 scholarly sources, plus as many other sources as you see fit Evidence of a topical link to the ideas you’ve been developing a discussion posts. Alternative Forms can be more literary or experimental in nature and incorporate images and audiovisual materials.  PDFs, slideshows and websites are among the acceptable formats.   If you’re debating between scholarly and Alternative Forms, you can submit multiple proposals, and we can discuss.
