[SOLVED] Media Diary

The module is called: everyday life and technology This module: explores the sphere of everyday … This module: ·       explores the sphere of everyday life and the position of media technologies within it.  ·       explores historical and contemporary examples of technological media within the public and private spaces of the everyday.  ·       considers major theoretical approaches to the study of media technology.  ·       asks how a variety of new media forms – including television, radio, mobile communications, the internet, computers – are socially shaped, re-shaped, and experienced as forms of material culture and how everyday life itself might be theorized in relation to media.   Information about media diary essay 1.    This can take many forms. You are encouraged to think of your own way of presenting the material, and of gathering the material. The diary (which might be ‘actuality’ or ‘ethno-fiction’, and might be based on you or someone else) should be fieldwork of some form. It shouldn’t take the form of an essay but should be data, bringing together material and references to the reading. The simplest way of doing this is to think of it as the day in the life of a media/technology-using creature, but you might also want to think of doing it in other ways (a day in the life of a ‘family’ computer, for instance). The point of the exercise is to collect empirical information and to connect this to the issues that we have been addressing in the module. You should aim to investigate the rhythms of media use embedded in the everyday.   Information for the essay for Everyday Life and Technology Word length 4,500 words Basically you are allowed to set your own project which you can think of as a mini-investigation that might be historical, ethnographic, and so on. This essay requires two things from you – an engagement with the module material and research – and this is what you will be marked on.   If it helps you, you could think of your essay in a variety of ways: If  it  helps you,  you  could think   of  your essay  in  a  variety  of ways: :Issue-based: identify the issue that you think is most interesting a productive (dailiness, or domesticity, or distraction for instance) and then identify the technology and/or media that you think is going to make this issue most vivid. Your research would need to pursue the issue (i.e. what else has been written about domesticity that might be useful in this context) and to study the specific media-techs you are looking at (this might be historical, via representation, small-scale ethnography, etc.) Object-based: here you might want to start with the media-tech that you think is particularly interesting (or weird, or awkward, whatever). The crucial think here would be to provide the most productive description of it and how it connects to the everyday. Then out of this descriptive analysis you could choose a specific issue or set of issues that you let the object dialogue with. Other based: this is open (of course). You might want to pick up on something from the worksheets, or devise your own project. It might have to do with a method more than an object or an issue (small scale ethnography, for instance). It might start with a place (the media technology of a kitchen, for instance), or of a communicative forum (weather forecasts, for instance). You might want to make this a particularly creative piece. While this allows you to be very free you still need to follow the main ingredients – engagement with ideas, and your own research.   My attempt to write an introduction  Modern technology in countless ways has changed our lives – revolutionising how we work, live and play. Until early as the 1990s, in many American households televisions have been the height of technology. In 1989, a mere 15 per cent of households had a personal machine, according to the Census Bureau. The figure had grown to 75 per cent by 2011. Owing to the abundance of emails, video conferencing, tablets , and computers, new workplaces will be unrecognisable to staff of the past.  One place where technology has had the biggest difference is in the media domain. It was once a complicated task to converse with others outside of the immediate surroundings, requiring actual letters and a lot of patience. Professional communication has involved writing letters, faxing, or spending hours on the phone for the most part of the last century. No more. Email is now the primary mode of communication for business in the workplace today.  Nowadays the world is living through a pandemic. The 2019 coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). A pandemic is described as “which happens over a large geographic region and affects an unusually high proportion of the population.”. Technologies play a vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic in maintaining our society functioning at a time of lockdowns and quarantines. My aim in this media diary is to explore my everyday technology practises throughout the outbreak.   I would like to have the essay (issue based) way. Here are some bullet points. –       On the last week of April Kuwaiti students in the UK have been evacuated due to the coronavirus outbreak.  –       We had to download an app called “shlonik” in Kuwait when we arrive so they could track our location as we should be quarantined for 28 days. –       For people who can’t quarantine at home because they don’t have a place by themselves or they have an elderly or sick person who live in the house, just to be safer the Kuwait government provided free 14 day quarantine for students that were abroad in hotels in Kuwait.  –       I was in one of the hotels when I first arrived they gave me a bracelet that was linked to the “shlonik app”   –       Three times a day for 28 days the shlonik app sends me a notification to send them a selfie for them to make sure that I am indoor and alone  –       I wanted the essay to be about the routine in quarantine which is basically for 14 days I would wake up at 12PM join the online class using my laptop, at 3 I used to kill time watching tv, and I use my phone to contact my family and friends few times a day and take selfies using the shlonik app. These are some bullet points for what I want to be written in the essay. The three main technologies that I want the focus on are the laptop, phone, tv. –       Some of the references I want in the essay: 1      Evereyday life as a critical concept (Ben Highmore) 2      EVERYDAY LIFE  SOCIOLOGY Patricia A.  Adler and Peter Adler  3      Let us then Return to the Murmuring of Everyday Practices: A Note on Michel de Certeau, Television and Everyday Life (Roger Silverston) 4      Saturated and situated: expanding the meaning of media in the routines of everyday life. (Sarah Pink) 5      Most importantly anything from the writer (Michael Bull).
