[SOLVED] Individualized Education Plan

Ben is a 12-year-old, fourth grade student at a local elementary school. He has been diagnosed with a learning disability and has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Ben engages in several behaviors that are viewed as major problem behaviors by his teacher. These behaviors include refusing to follow directions, failing to complete work, not paying attention when the teacher is talking, and making disruptive comments during instructional time. The school protocol is to address these behaviors with office discipline referrals but these do not appear to have an impact on his behaviors. Choose one specific indirect assessment tool reviewed in Chapter 7 of your assigned reading and describe how that particular tool can be useful in teasing out potentially controlling variables and reinforcing stimuli associated with the target behavior in your hypothetical scenario. Peer Responses: Respond to two classmates’ primary posts by identifying an additional indirect assessment tool that would apply to the scenario to compliment what your peer has chosen. Diani Bonilla posted Jul 31, 2020 5:06 PM Subscribe The indirect assessment tool  that i will choose for Ben is gathering data, identifying potential relationships between environmental variables and interfering behavior, collecting more data, analyzing the influences of environmental variables on interfering behavior, and confirming or disconfirming hypotheses,  Reinforcing consequences are the events that follow and strengthen interfering behaviors. Reinforcing consequences may be classified as (1) positive (access) or negative (avoidance/escape) and (2) socially mediated (delivered by others), individu-ally mediated (directly obtained), or automatic (sensory). Examples: access to peer attention, access to preferred items, escape from tasks, sensory stimulation, arousal reduction. This particular tool can be useful  in finding the variables, the antecedents in why Ben is behaving  that way, having all of this information can help us to find a target behavior intervention that not only is going to decrease the behavior but also it will strength the new behavior that we are trying to implement. indirect FBA is an efficient, but often insufficient, method for assessing the function(s) of interfering behavior. Reviewing school records, administering rating scales, and conducting interviews provides important information about antecedent, individual, and consequence variables associated with interfering behavior. Choosing  this tool can make a difference on Ben’s life  because it can change the way he behave and think. Elizabeth Curtin posted Jul 31, 2020 3:38 PM Subscribe PS410 U5D1   I would use BAPS-I.  The purpose of this assessment tool is to” identify and describe the variables that contribute to the interfering behavior” (Steege, Pratt, Wickerd, Guare, Watson & Gresham, 2019, pp.115) and solidify an operational definition of the target behavior.  This is assessment is conducted as a semi-structured assessment that uses the interview to ascertain any environmental or behavioral factors through a series of questions.  These questions are designed to assist in achieving a hypothesis of the behavior.  The assessment is flexible in that the questions can be used as needed or prompted if necessary in order to gain detailed information.   Because the teacher describes the behaviors as major problem behaviors, it is necessary to help her define what these are specifically so others may be able to recognize them when observing Ben.  A teacher in a classroom with 30 other students may be overwhelmed at times and when needing the class to conform, otherwise small behaviors may become big behaviors.  This assessment works to determine whether the behavior has a function that is manageable through possibly additional classroom management.    The office referrals are not impacting Ben as they have lost their value in reinforcement.  With the use of this assessment, interviews with the teacher, office staff, other classroom staff, or teaching staff may help define if the behavior is occurring only in her classroom or in other situations.  It might also help determine what circumstances lead up to the behaviors throughout his academic day.    By flushing out the individual variances or environmental influences with the use of this tool, we may find that Ben may only have this behavior in only one class, then, it may be a matter of classroom management or more academic support.  It may also show that Ben may have a hearing problem if he cannot hear the teacher when in large proximity.  In other classes, he may be in close proximity and have no behavior problems.  Respectfully, Elizabeth
