The essay reads: First, in her article, “A Way Outa No Way: Eating Problems Among African-American, Latina, and White Women,” Thompson challenges the assumption that women develop eating problems because of their obsession with the thinness ideal.  She suggests other factors are involved. Considering the lengthy class lecture involving the numerous ways the media is a contributing factor and the videos watched (i.e., “Dying to be Thin” and “Killing Us Softly 4”), in what ways does the media support eating-disordered attitudes and behaviors? Explain and provide examples from both the videos and class lecture. With the Killing Us Softly videos, you need to discuss the copy, taglines, and subliminal messages from the ads. Please be sure in addressing the first question to discuss Thompson’s factors in relation to the individual women’s stories. Please be sure in addressing the second question that you include examples from the lecture (HINT: A-E) and that your essay does include the copy, taglines or subliminal messages from Killing Us Softly.
