Instructions Students will create an informational presentation addressing qualities of a teacher, professional goals, illustrations of key concepts, discussion of historical figures, highlights of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and personal reflections. *If you choose a presentation method other than Word, PowerPoint, or Googleslides, please check with your instructor to be sure your work will be in a format that the instructor can access. Cover slide Course name and number Your name Introduction A minimum of two slides Imagery and discussion of who you are as an Early Childhood Educator (qualities, characteristics and dispositions you possess) A statement outlining your career goals including: What career you’re preparing for What education, training, and experience you need to complete Your goals for what you plan to accomplish once you have reached your career goal Theory A minimum of three slides Choose a minimum of three theory categories, and related theorists (i.e. Constructivist: Dewey, Behaviorist:Skinner, etc) Identify the main ideas related to the category, and specific theorist chosen Philosophy A minimum of one slide State your philosophy of child development and teaching. What do you believe about: The period of early childhood How young children learn What does Developmentally Appropriate mean to you? How will you incorporate children’s culture and diversity into the classroom in authentic ways? Identify and discuss the historical figures /theorists and their significant ideas in the field of ECE which you have found most influential in providing a foundation for your philosophy. Characteristics of Quality and Developmentally Appropriate Practices You will provide paragraphs, visual illustrations, and key words to demonstrate the most important ideas you have learned about characteristics of quality, application of theory, along with developmentally appropriate practices and teaching strategies. Brief quotes should be used to support statements. (Consider them like chocolate chips in a cookie, they should be sparingly sprinkled throughout.) A minimum of two slides per topic, so at least 10 slides. Building relationships with children and families Play Environments indoor/outdoor, learning centers, etc. Observation Curriculum Professionalism A minimum of two slides. Identify at least 3 Ideals or Principles from the NAEYC Code of Ethical and Professional behavior. Discuss the importance of each, including how it will guide you in your work Your perceptions of the challenges and hopes for the field of early childhood education. Reference The final slide is your reference slide. All resources that you have quoted, paraphrased, or made reference to MUST be listed here. This includes proper citation for images. Creativity is encouraged! Make sure to use headings to properly identify each section/slide and to keep the slides in the assigned order. Remember you MUST provide in-text citations for quotes and paraphrases.
