There is a lot written about the ways in which the issue was addressed historically and Dorethea Dix. Topic is Mental Illness.   Use the Textbook Jansson, B. (2019). The Reluctant Welfare State: Engaging History to Advance Social Work Practice in Contemporary Society, (9th ed.)   Introduction Mental Illness [Write a summary of the social need/issue, and why it is important to address it (1-2 paragraphs).]   Historical Need: The Old [Give a description of a major social welfare issue or problem (e.g. racism, exploitation of native American’s, poverty, drugs and alcohol or policies regarding them, homelessness, social,safety nets, people marginalized via mental illness, disabilities, gender…) that continues to exist in current times.
