Assignment Content This assignment will provide practice to critique their work, and to refine and add any missing elements. Part 1 Choose one of the individual assignments from Wks 2, 3, or 4. Write a 350- word critique of your selected assignment. You may refer to your reflection on that assignment to craft your response. Refer to pp.164-169 of Crafting Truth for an example. Include the following: Identify the central theme (or thesis) of your original assignment. Is this theme appropriately touched on in both the introduction and conclusion? If multiple themes exist, how can they be either unified or pruned down to a single, strong theme or thesis? Identify strengths and areas for improvement in your original draft. Identify at least two major areas of concern in your first rough draft, and ask your peer team for suggestions for improving them. Rework your second draft taking into consideration all of your peers’ feedback for improvement using and integrating the suggestions that truly improve your piece. Attach your peers’ suggestions for improvement to your final revised assignment as an appendix. Discuss the challenges inherent in self-critiquing a draft of one’s own words, versus how peer feedback alleviates this problem. Discuss how your intended revisions will address areas in the original draft most in need of improvement and how they will unify the assignment around the strong central theme or thesis. Part 2 Revise the assignment as described in Part 1. Expand the work into a longer 1,050-word piece, keeping true to the format of the original assignment: personal essay, memoir, literary journalism, and so forth. As you add material to increase its length, spread the additional content throughout the revised piece; try not to make all additions to a single section or two. In addition to applying your own critique’s recommendations, be sure to incorporate editorial revisions called for in the original facilitator and team feedback for the assignment. Format your paper consistent with MLA guidelines.
