Populations at Risk Paper

Populations at Risk Paper (5 pages) Students will prepare a 5 pages paper on one of the populations at risk, with a minimum of five references using APA format. Papers should include the following: a. Description of the Populations at risk – characteristics of the population (demographic and cultural -problems experienced by the group b. Policies enacted to address the problems c. Programs and services developed to address the problems  d. Critique of the effectiveness of policies, programs, and services e. Recommendations to more effectively and equitably address the problems f. References    Oral Presentation of Populations at Risk Paper (1 page) Students will select one relevant article pertaining to populations at risk from a national or local website, news or article (peer-reviewed journal). Students will write a three paragraphs summary of the article and explanation of how it relates to the course. This explanation must present a social work perspective resolution to the problem (it can be a realistic current policy, resource or program, or one that the student would like to see developed soon through social work advocacy.  Be as creative/inventive as you desire.   Course Description This course explores factors that contribute to populations being at risk and strategies to address risk factors. The impact of group membership on access to resources is examined. Students are introduced to the concepts of distributive justice, human rights, and global oppression and its relationship to social and economic justice. Strategies to address discrimination, oppression, and economic deprivation and to promote social and economic justice are discussed.
