Patient’s Perspective (Objectives 2, 3, 5) At the discretion of the instructor, this assignment may be done by individual students or in groups. In this assignment, you will explore actual perspectives and experiences of patients as they navigate our changing health care system. You will find a patient story and create a narrated Power Point (or other formatted) presentation on how well/poorly the situation was handled, the reason(s) why, and possible alternative action(s). You will evaluate the story through the model for culturally competent care out lined in tile Ngo-Metzger article. The story can be from the personal experience of friends and family, or from the news and internet sources. Then choose the domain(s) that best apply to the situation: 1. Patient – Provider Communication 2. Respect for patient preferences and shared decision making 3. Experiences leading to trust or distrust 4. Experiences of discrimination 5.
