Leadership Applications
This paper asks that you consider the structure as well as the content of the leadership texts we have covered thus far in the semester. It asks that you design a brief guide for leadership in an arena that is familiar to you. You will then provide a discussion of how and why you designed the guide as you did. Think of a group or organization to which you belong. What constitutes, or would constitute, effective leadership in this arena? Consider how you would describe this to an individual interested in a leadership position in this group or organization. The paper will not discuss the relative positive or problematic aspects of an individuals leadership style you will not be discussing a particular person who inhabits the leadership role rather the three main aspects of leadership that are crucial to leading the group or organization. Then you will discuss why these are the main aspects, referencing texts that we have covered in support. Assignment The assignment is divided into two sections, each at least a full page in length. First, you will produce a brief guide for leadership in a group or organization to which you belong. Second, you will defend your choices based on best practices of leadership gleaned from the course readings. This second section is a critical exercise, in which you will need to support your decisions with clear evidence from the texts that we have covered. Consider how the concepts and the language employed in your guide positively reflect the readings. The paper should be at least two full pages in length, typed, and formatted according to the guidelines outlined on the syllabus. It must properly cite all sources used, according to MLA guidelines. The essay will need to include and analyze specific language from your texts. The only other resource that may be used is a dictionary the Oxford English Dictionary (available through the University library webpage).
