In Chapter 9, you learned about the Social Construction of Race and the myths surrounding race and immigration. For this assignment you will need to talk to two family members and one friend (3 total) This assignment puts you in the role of being an educator and is not intended or designed to cause an argument or heated debate. 1. Explain to them about how race is not “real” using concepts from the book and the powerpoint. Make sure to include a thorough explanation of the idea of the Social Construction of Race, and write down their reactions to this information. Some questions to ask might be: Are they surprised? Do they feel comfortable or uncomfortable learning this information? Does it make sense to them or does it seem very strange? 2. Then explain to them the myths (untruths) surrounding immigration and write down their reactions. Did they previously think these myths were true statements? Do they now understand that these commonly held ideas are, in fact, untrue? For this paper, you should use the book and the powerpoint and you may even want to ask your respondents to read parts of the book or powerpoint to help them understand the concepts. I must see evidence that you understand and taught these concepts to your three respondents also.
