Human Memory Sample Paper

Human Memory Sample Paper Human Memory Sample Paper The human memory is one of the most interesting things to learn about but also one of the most challenging. In this essay I will explore the human memory and how it relates to the following things: information processing theory, nature of sensory register, and the role of attention. I will also explain to the best of my ability the nature of the working memory, how the brain connect new information with prior knowledge and the nature of long term memory. Finally I will provide strategies as to how a person can transfers something to their long term memory and how a person can enhance retrieval of information from their long term memory. As technology has advanced thorough the years the human brain has been compared to …show more content…Human Memory Sample Paper Permalink: https://nursingpaperessays.com/ human-memory-sample-paper / ? Our working memory is a system for storing and managing the information to carry out complex tasks such as learning and comprehension. The working memory is also involved when we are storing or retrieving data. Some tasks we perform on a daily basis involve our working memory include reading and problem solving. Our prior knowledge of things is very important in the learning process. When we are learning something new we have a tendency to associate it to things we have previous knowledge of. An example of how our connects new information with prior knowledge would be the concept of math.Human Memory Sample Paper When we are around 2 or 3 years old we learn the concept of numbers, when we go into kindergarten we use those same numbers and begin to learn the next step in math which is addition and subtraction as we continue through school even in college those numbers a major part of our education. One way to help our students successfully connect new information with prior knowledge would be to use a KWL Chart. KWL gives the students the opportunity to list what they already know about the subject, what they want to learn about the subject and what they learned. Many people don’t know it but the memory of a human is more complex than thought to be. The memory can be divided into three stores which are Sensory, Short term and Long term. There are also two processes which are Attention and Rehearsal. I will be looking at these sections closely to help explain the human memory. I will also be looking at past experiments which will help me support my theory. The Sensory stores are made up of three parts- Visual sensory memory, Acoustic sensory memory, touch, smell and motor information. If the information is not attended to then it can decay. The sensory information is the environmental input which is kept for two seconds in the sensory …show more content… This can only be lost in the long term memory.Human Memory Sample Paper These three stores are like in a cycle because if the sensory store was not there then the information from the environment input would not be transferred into the short term memory. If the short term memory was not there then the digit or the word which doesn’t get rehearsed does not get put into the long term memory so we will not be able to remember the past or important dates like birthdays or anniversary. There are few studies which help support my theory and help prove the psychological theory of the human memory. I will be looking at the differences of the short term and the long term in the encoding, capacity and duration. The capacity of the short term memory was tested by the man named Jacob’s in 1887. His aim was to investigate how much information can be held in the short term memory. So to test this he devised a technique called the serial digit span. To test this, a laboratory experiment using the digit span was conducted. The participants were asked to remember numbers of series and this was repeated over a number of trials to establish the participants ‘digit span’. The findings were that the average of the short term is the between 5-9 items. Digits were recalled better (9.3 items) than letters (7.3 items). Individual differences were found with age. Human Memory Sample Paper Memory is associated with the “thinking again” or “recalling to the mind” of something learned from past experience. Human memory is an important part of human existence, but it is rarely understandable. Memory is a “mental time travel” (Goldstein, 2011, p. 116). A memory can bring back the feeling about situation, event and experience that occurred long ago. Memory is used to remember fact, acquired new knowledge and how to use new knowledge or skill in day to day life (Goldstein, 2011). Sternberg (1999), defined memory as remembered the past experience to use the information in the future. Without a memory a person cannot operate in present or think in the future because it affect the ability to learn new knowledge. Sternberg (1999), defined memory as remembered the past experience to use the information in the future. Without a memory a person cannot operate in present or think in the future because it affect the ability to learn new knowledge. There are four major processes occurred in human memory which are encoding, consolidation, storage, and retrieved or recall (refer to figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first process in memory is encoding. Encoding is a biological development that is rooted in the senses which it is begins with perception (Mohs, 2007). Encoding is the first important step to creating a new memory. It allows the perceived worthwhile item to be converted into information that can be stored in the brain, and after that is recalled from short-term or long-term memory (Mastin, 2010). Information excerpted from sensory input into the memory system changed into a form that the system can cope with and then stored it.Human Memory Sample Paper Get a 10 % discount on an order above $ 100 Use the following coupon code : NURSING10
