Five Noble Truths about Humanity
Try to develop interesting ideas and deploy evidence and reason in pursuit of a well-written, well-argued, and intellectually powerful essay. This means that your goal should be to write a standard academic essay (introduction with a big idea or thesis; several topic paragraphs; conclusion) that reveals a comprehensive understanding of the issues and employs a wide range of evidence from a variety of time periods and regions as found in the assigned readings, videos, and other course materials. The Assignment: The United Nations has asked you to create an essay for an exhibit called “Five Noble Truths about Humanity” that reveals the finest, most noble aspects of being human as revealed in this history of our species up to about the year 1200 CE. What are some of the greatest and best characteristics of humanity as seen in the record of our past during that period? But there is a twist: you need to include in your essay FIVE images (anything that can be visually depicted, including symbols, photos, people, paintings, ideas, maps, charts, etc) related to the materials (readings, videos, web pages, etc) relating to the period up to about 1200 CE. If you cannot find an image of what you are looking for, or if for any reason working with images is difficult for you, you may describe what you have in mind. Do not limit your discussion only to these images, but use these images as a way to illustrate or represent the “Five Noble Truths about Humanity” that you have found as you explore human history up to about the year 1200 CE. You will write an essay on “Five Noble Truths about Humanity” up to about the year 1200 CE. 2. As part of that essay, you will select FIVE images that illustrate or otherwise relate to your five truths. 3 .Copy and paste the images into your document, either in the text or at the end. (The document must be accessible by Turnitin, so I recommend MS Word or Google, but see the syllabus for more on acceptable formats). 4. Please also include basic information for each image such as who, what, when, where, etc. You do not need to cite the source of the image. 5. You do not need to use a formal citation style, but if you do quote anything give then name of the person or source.
