[Get Solution] Finding Balance
Frida Kahlo, “Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird,” 1940 This week we learned about the many types of balance in art, including symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial balance. We also talked about imbalance in art, which gives the viewer a sense of instability and anxiety. After you review the videos/powerpoint for this week, please respond to the following prompts: Find an example of an artwork that gives you a sense of balance. What kind of compositional balance does it illustrate? (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial, etc.) Explain how the composition gives you a sense of balance (for example, does symmetry make you feel uneasy, so you ended up choosing one with asymmetry?) You can use an artwork from this week’s powerpoint or find one on the internet (Here are a few museum websites for finding images: Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum of Art).
