Omi and Winant state that For most of its existence the U.S. was a racial dictatorship It is important to recognize that in many respects, racial dictatorship is the norm against which all U.S. politics must be measured (179). Cammarota argues that white saviors represented in popular media overshadow the fact that people of color are a part of and, most importantly, make history. In contrast, white allies can help promote leadership among people of color by challenging the privileges that provide them with superior social status and legitimacy. Discussing two films (BlackKklansman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and/or The Perfect Family) how are the concepts of race represented? In what ways is the U.S. still a racial dictatorship? Or is it not? What Racial Formation Projects are shown in the films? Are white allies or saviors present? Do the white characters work for the benefit of themselves or others?
