Fictional Literary Analysis

The purpose of this assignment is to apply literary analysis skills to a piece of fiction.  This assignment asks that you perform either an historical analysis or a feminist analysis on the necklace Use written and oral language to interpret and discuss literary works and their significance Practice advanced critical thinking, reading, and interpretive skills, communicating ideas clearly and effectively in speech and writing Analyze literature with attention to style and form as well as content Utilize accepted methods of literary research and MLA documentation Apply a variety of critical strategies in responding to literature Apply field-specific critical and theoretical methods of literary analysis to produce aesthetic, historical, and cultural assessments of literary texts Demonstrate competency in literary research and its applications preliminary bibliography (minimum 4 sources), critical stance, and working thesis statement. What “stands out” to you in the reading?  What do you “notice most” about the story?  This is where you should focus your attention and analysis. Decide upon your critical stance for “reading” and interpreting the text.  Are you interested in doing a feminist reading?  An historical reading?  A Marxist reading? Reread the story.  Make notes of passages that “stick out” to you and that you think may be important as they relate to the critical stance for your analysis
