Exercise for Student Well Being
Please format your response into numbered paragraphs to address each prompt of 700 words total: What, if any, exercises do you currently incorporate in your classroom to help your students’ physical, social, and/or academic well-being? Enumerate the benefits, based on the lesson content as well as your observations. Describe a specific (common) need you have identified in your students related to health and exercise, that relates to their developmental stage, and describe one practice that can be incorporated into your instruction that can help to meet that need. (Your response should include session content as well as your own knowledge and experience, with additional research if necessary.) Expand on specific ways exercise can and should be modified to meet the needs of students with special needs. Cite the video watched entitled “Physical activity program IMPACTs lives of children with special needs. Discuss the importance of being inclusive and adaptive related to movement. (This will be directly applied in Unit VI.) Using technology as a coach, “exercise class instructor, or personal trainer was mentioned as a practical tip. Let’s share with one another our experiences with such resources. Please share with us one way you have used technology to increase your physical exercise, if applicable, or interview and share with us about a colleague who uses technology for this purpose. This may be a FitBit, an application on one’s smartphone or watch, or a website that is used to increase movement. What is the specific technology tool? Discuss benefits and shortcomings of this tool.
