This assignment is to help you explore the roots of your own ethical perspective by comparing the two most basic approaches to ethical reasoning.  There are three parts to the body of the essay.  First, explain the basic principles of utilitarianism and deontology.  Second, present an example where you ask a clear ethical question and then apply utilitarianism and deontology to reach different answers.  Third, explain which theory offers a better approach to ethical decision-making and defend your choice with reasoning. Be sure to construct your paper as a standard essay, so begin with an introductory paragraph that includes a clear thesis statement, and follow that with the body of the essay.  Each paragraph in the body of your essay should begin with a clear topic sentence.  When the body of your essay is finished be sure to add a concluding paragraph that reviews the central points of your paper without adding any new ideas.  (Do not combine the final section of your paper with the concluding paragraph!)   The paper should be 3-4 pages in length, in size 12 Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and follow APA or MLA format.  Make substantial use of course resources, with appropriate citations.
