Early Childhood Educators have to make many ethical decisions when working with young children and families. For this assignment, carefully read the following scenario: Scenario: You have just been informed that one of the families enrolled in your program has divorced. During drop-off time one morning, the mother approaches you to explain the situation and how the custody arrangement will work. She explains they have shared custody, and she tells you which days the father will have the children and which days she will have them. When the father picks up that evening, he also approaches you; however, instead of talking about the children, he tells about the circumstances of the divorce down to the details, which is personal and has nothing to do with you and the program. He demands that you communicate only with him and not the mother because she is not a responsible person and doesnt really care about the children. As the administrator and/or educator, how do you handle this situation? Do you tell the mother what the father has said? Brainstorm three (3) possible solutions to present to the family. Based on the information you have and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, choose the BEST solution. Use the Ethical Dilemma Chart to help you organize your plan. In a two (2) page Word document, submit the following: Write a one (1) page letter explaining the solution, how you will implement the solution, and why you chose that solution. Refer specifically to the section/ideal/principle from the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, which influenced your decision. Prepare a one (1) page annotated bibliography of three (3) professional, but family-friendly resources/articles to help address the situation. This can include helpful websites, articles to read, and information to share with their child about this issue.
