For the purposes of this assignment, choose a Senator or Representative who has served at least two terms, or is currently serving a second term. Briefly explain the following information about his or her role in government: 1.      Research the selected legislator’s congressional performance and briefly describe information such as attendance in congressional sessions, voting history, bills sponsored or proposed, committee membership, and frequency of committee meetings. What is your perception of how effectively this person performs the expected congressional duties and responsibilities?       2.      Describe your legislator’s time spent campaigning and fundraising. Include information such as how many fundraisers attended in the last year, what type of fundraisers attended, the cost of the last election campaign, sources of campaign funds, and any additional pertinent information. What is your perception of the time spent campaigning and fundraising, and what effect do these activities have on governing?         The Judicial Branch: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Research a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Briefly explain the following information about his or her role in government: 3.      Research the duties and responsibilities of your justice. Consider information such as biographical information, which president nominated the justice and when, responsibilities a U.S. Supreme Court Justice has in addition to hearing cases, opinions this justice handed down, including any dissenting or concurring opinions. What is your perception of the importance and effectiveness of the justice you selected in the role of government?     4.      Supreme Court Justices must be nominated to their positions by a sitting President, and the Senate votes whether to confirm the nominations. Before the confirmation vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee reviews the nomination and then holds confirmation hearings. Describe any controversy surrounding the confirmation process such as concerns about the nominee’s background, ideology, and qualifications. Besides the nominee, who else testified before the Judiciary Committee during the confirmation process? How did politics influence the nomination and confirmation of the justice you selected?     The Executive Branch: The President of the United States Research the current or a former President of the United States who held office after World War II. Briefly explain the following information about the President’s role in government. For the purposes of this assignment, choose a President who was re-elected to the office after the first term. 5.      The President’s responsibilities are included in Article II of the U.S. Constitution, in addition to many unofficial and ceremonial responsibilities. Describe three to five specific duties and responsibilities fulfilled by the President, you chose to research. You must include at least one responsibility as defined in Article II and at least one unofficial or ceremonial duty. How important are these duties and responsibilities governing the country? How effectively do you think the President you selected performed the duties and responsibilities you described?     6.      Research time the President spent campaigning and fundraising, particularly for re-election. What ways do the duties and responsibilities of the legislator, the justice, the President, and their respective branches of government, interact with one another today? What differences might there be between how the branches should interact and how the branches currently interact?         8.      How does the system of checks and balances serve to limit the concentration of power in the federal government? Cite specific ways the Legislator and The legislative branch, the President and the Executive branch, and the Supreme Court Justice and Judicial branch of government limit power of each of the other branches.
