Deconditioning of Exercise
From chapter 26 in ACSMs Advanced Exercise Physiology, you are tasked with understanding the physiological systems and their responses to conditions of microgravity and bed rest. A joint significant 20-page (minimum) report should be presented concerning the deconditioning of astronauts in the NASA 1-year in the space program. Considering flight limitations in terms of space, power, noise, vibration, of the ISS during exercise, and crew time, what exercise prescription would you design to prevent changes in aerobic capacity and endurance as well as muscle strength and endurance? Consideration the same limitations, describe and invent the requirements for a resistive exercise device that might prove effective in a microgravity environment? What type of resistive exercise program (in terms of intensity, duration, frequency, and progression) would you prescribe to prevent the changes in muscle associated with spaceflight? Please follow the linked rubric/scoring guidelines. Use a minimum of 20 citations. For complete information on the NASA 1-year in space program please go to this link.
