[ORDER SOLUTION] Counseling the Culturally Diverse
There are two questions.. For the first question I am a female that is Trinidadian, obviously I will fill out my name and year in the program and pursuits. Just answer the rest of the questions and make up something for aspects of my own cultural identity. No cover page needed. Separate the references per question. These are your material asked to read, just make sure you use whatever needed for the question: In the Sue and Sue text, Counseling the Culturally Diverse: Theory and Practice, read the following: Chapter 1, “Obstacles to Cultural Competence: Understanding Resistance to Multicultural Training.” Chapter 2, “The Superordinate Nature of Multicultural Counseling and Therapy.” Chapter 3, “Multicultural Counseling Competence for Counselors and Therapists of Marginalized Groups.” Chapter 4, “The Political and Social Justice Implications of Counseling and Psychotherapy.” http://media.capella.edu/CourseMedia/PSY7540/GuestSpeakerPresentations/GreeneUnit1/multi-audio.asp (This is needed for second discussion, if it doesnt work I will provide my log in info. 1. For this discussion: Introduce yourself to the class. Include your name, your year in the program, and the specialty you are pursuing at Capella University. Consider what three or four aspects of your own cultural identity are most important to you and share them with your peers. Describe a situation in which an aspect of you has been categorized in the ways discussed in the readings. Does that process involve stigma or stereotyping? How did this affect you? Comment also on Dr. Greene’s discussion of the role of power. Describe a situation in which you have experienced or observed where power differential has resulted in differential treatment. 2. For this discussion: After reading the first chapter from Counseling the Culturally Diverse: Theory and Practice, comment on your own reactions, negative or positive, to what Sue and Sue have to say. What suggestions or changes, if any, would you make to present this information in a way that seems less reactive? Why do you think this text is so commonly used to address issues of cultural diversity and multiculturalism in psychology and other social science fields?
