Nature vs. Nurture Position Paper STEP ONE: The authors of the textbook introduce the debate between the role of nature (i.e., the influence of genetics and the presence of certain innate qualities) and nurture (i.e., the importance of experience on knowledge acquisition). Developing a research hypothesis (also referred to as the test hypothesis or alternative hypothesis), and selecting participants to test the hypothesis, are critical components for beginning a study. This hypothesis is your prediction of what will actually happen in your study.
