Challenges- Dealing with Death

Death is a scary thing to most people.  It is the one common denominator that will impact us all.  This assignment evaluates the social and emotional components of death.  You will read the theory listed.  The videos are not required but will help quite a bit.  The American Dad scene is funny and the Sprinkles video really helps you to see the different stages and understand them.  I recommend watching the Sprinkles video. Five Stages of Grief: https://www.businessballs.com/health-and-wellbeing/elisabeth-kubler-ross-five-stages-of-grief-1800/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JOpLm1UiLQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcNQGNUncd4 CRITERIA: You will use the provided media within the assignment for your source material. Once complete, you will review another students statement and critically analyze their argument. This response must be a minimum of 2 paragraphs 4 sentences each.   QUESTIONS: 1.    Please explain Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s stages of mortality acceptance and don’t spare the details!   2.    How valid is this theory?   3.    Can this be generalized to everyone?   4.    Do you have to progress through each stage in order?   5.    Is it possible to experience some of the stages but not all of them?

Discrimination Against Older People by Van den Heuvel

5-6 pages, double spaced, 12 pt TNR font. Here is the source: Van den Heuvel, Wim J. A. (2012). Discrimination against older people. Reviews in Clinical Gerontology, 22(4), 293-300.  An overall summary of the key aspects of the paper (e.g. idea being presented, hypotheses, participants, methods, results). This should be complete enough that someone who hasn’t read the article would be able to understand what was being evaluated, how it was being evaluated, why it was being evaluated, and what the conclusions of the paper were and why. The following questions need to be answered: In terms of the results, did the studies fulfill the hypotheses? Fully? Partially? Do the methods allow for the conclusions? What unexpected findings did this study uncover Were there any weaknesses to the study’s methodology that you can think of (e.g. biased sample, gender issues, participant or experimenter bias, any confounds or artifacts)? Did the researchers suggest alternate explanations that may explain the pattern of data that they found in this study other than their theory? What practical applications can you see from this paper’s findings? How could it be used or potentially abused in the real world? Design your own study to answer questions about this theory or hypothesis that the current study did not. Be sure to include a rationale, methods, and hypotheses. (not too long of a section)
