One of the tenets of authentic leadership is being present in the moment. How is this reflected in your organization? How does your leadership reflect authentic leadership? Imagine meeting four separate individuals who have each sustained an injury to a different area of the brain. Person A has irreversible damage to her frontal lobe. Person B has irreversible damage to his parietal lobe. Person C has irreversible damage to her temporal lobe, and person D as irreversible damage to his occipital lobe. Briefly, what would be the effects of each of these injuries? Talk about each person specifically, indicating what functions are mediated by these brain areas. Include information on brain and neuron function generally.

Ralph is sorry about the accident but feels no responsibility or paying his roommate what the car was worth.Does he have any moral responsibility to do so?2. A 16-year-old girl and their father were arrested in Panama City, Florida for allegedly trying to sell the girl’s unborn baby for a 10 year old car and $500. Although selling babies is against the law, the two presumably felt that they had the moral right to do so.Is their feeling morally defensible?

Please use your textbook to answer the following questions. Number your answers, please! 1) What is the most interesting thing you learned from Chapter 2 about the brain? Please be specific and give the page number. 2) How can you apply this information to your life in some way? 3) Our brains are very complex, so this is a hypothetical question. Assuming you could survive with only 5 parts of the brain, which specific parts would you choose and why?  If forced to prioritize, which would you choose? Hopefully this question will help you to focus on what each part of the brain handles.  Make sure to answer both questions if you want to receive full credit, and give enough detail when answering each one.

Given the many developmental theories that exist, you are likely to find some more appealing and plausible than others. For any two theories in Chapter 1, list the concepts and principles you find important and those you believe to be inadequate or incorrect and explain why.

In your opinion, are Freud’s theories scientific? Why or why not? What makes a psychological theory scientific? When responding to your classmates, discuss the points they raised to support their opinion. How could the scientific method be applied to these theories?

1.  Many states have banned cell phone usage while driving. As your text states, it’s believed we cannot multitask because both driving and talking/texting are thought processes that make heavy demands on our conscious awareness. What is consciousness? What are some ways in which you multitask throughout the day? How does multitasking impact your awareness or affect the quality of your work whether it’s a job, home or school? Now, think about an example where being aware would be important in your chosen field. 2.  What is an altered state of consciousness? Which of the following altered states have you EVER experienced? Daydreams Lucid Dream (Controlling what you do in your dream, how your dream ends, etc.) Prophetic Dream (Dreaming about something that comes true in the future) Deep Meditation Hyperalertness (Being extremely alert and aware of your surroundings) Trance (Rapt attentiveness to a single stimulus) Rapture (Having intense feelings and overpowering emotions Near Death Experience Choose two and describe what happened. If you were awake, how did the experience alter your being aware of your surroundings? 3.  Another method for attaining an altered state of consciousness is drugs. While some drugs have their purpose such as sedation for surgery or controlling pain or anxiety, drugs can be dangerous. Define the term psychoactive drug, and distinguish between physical and psychological dependence on drugs. Would drugs be used in your chosen field? If so, explain how and what effects, good and bad it would have on the person.  4.  We all know that sleep is important and that our lives can be affected when we don’t get enough of it but what happens when sleep goes wrong?  Describe and differentiate among the various sleep disorders.  Have you or anyone you know suffered from a sleep disorder?  Describe how it affect their life.
